How to Forward Business Calls to Cell Phone
To forward business calls to a cell phone, you activate call forwarding on your business line and set your cell number as the destination. The exact steps depend on who provides your phone service. Many landline and VoIP services use a star code such as *72 followed by your cell number, while mobile carriers and app-based systems often use menus or online dashboards instead. Before you start, confirm which type of forwarding you want: forwarding all calls, or forwarding only when you cannot answer. Then activate it from the business line itself or through your provider's account portal, and place a test call to confirm it works. If you use a Google Voice number, note that Google does not support forwarding from Google Voice to an automated answering system, so that path will not work for this purpose.

Know the Two Main Types of Forwarding
Before touching any settings, decide what kind of forwarding you actually need. The two most common types behave very differently, and picking the wrong one can send calls away from your desk phone when you did not mean to.
Unconditional (all-call) forwarding sends every incoming call straight to your cell phone. Your business line does not ring at all. This is useful when you are out of the office for the day and want the business number to reach you directly.
Conditional forwarding only steps in when you cannot pick up. It usually covers three situations: the line is busy, nobody answers after a set number of rings, or the phone is unreachable. This lets your desk phone ring normally first, with your cell phone as the backup.
- All-call forwarding: every call goes to your cell; the original line does not ring.
- No-answer forwarding: the business line rings first, then the call moves to your cell.
- Busy forwarding: calls reroute while you are already on another call.
- Unreachable forwarding: calls reroute when the phone is off or out of service.
- All-call forwarding usually overrides voicemail on the original line, so callers will not reach that voicemail while it is on.

Check These Things First
A few minutes of checking saves a lot of frustration. The single biggest mistake is following instructions for the wrong product, because many providers sell several phone services with different steps.
Find the exact name of your service on your bill or account page. For example, Comcast Business offers Voice Mobility and other voice products with different features, and Frontier's Digital Voice works differently from other Frontier services. Also confirm whether forwarding is included in your plan, since some carriers charge for it or restrict it to certain areas and devices.
- Identify your exact service name from your bill or provider account.
- Confirm your plan includes forwarding and check for extra charges.
- Know whether activation happens from the phone itself or an online portal.
- Have your full 10-digit cell number ready.
- If you use Google Voice as your business number, forwarding it to an automated system is not supported by Google.

Forwarding Steps for Common Providers
The steps below come from each provider's own documentation. Match your exact product before using them, because codes that work on one service may do nothing on another.
Verizon mobile: call *72 plus the 10-digit destination to forward all calls; *71 plus the destination forwards unanswered calls; *73 turns forwarding off. Set this up from the mobile phone while in Verizon coverage. Verizon business landline uses *72 to activate and *73 to deactivate from that line. T-Mobile: dial **21*1 followed by the 10-digit destination and # for all-call forwarding, and ##21# to disable. For no-reply forwarding use **61*1 and destination #, with ##61# to disable; **62*1 covers unreachable and **67*1 covers busy, each with a matching ## code to turn off. ##004# resets forwarding to defaults.
Comcast Business: Voice Mobility includes call forwarding and remote call forwarding, managed through My Account or the Comcast Business app. For the Managed Voice Panasonic TPA65 system, lift the handset, dial *72 and the destination, then hang up; *73 disables it. AT&T: for AT&T Phone for Business, dial *72, the destination, then # for all calls, *92 for no-answer, and *90 for busy, with *73#, *93#, and *91# to turn each off. AT&T Collaborate uses *72/*73 for always, *92/*93 for no-answer, and *62/*63 for busy.
Spectrum Business Voice: sign in to SpectrumBusiness.net with an account role that manages voice, open Voice, choose the phone number, then Voice Settings or Forwarding Manager, enable forwarding, pick all calls or busy/no-answer, and set the destination. Vonage Business Communications: select Call Forwarding and enable forwarding to a phone number, then verify with an outside call. Optimum Business Phone uses *72 (wait for dial tone, dial the destination, and have it answered to confirm) and *73 to turn off. Frontier Unlimited Digital Voice uses *72 with a second dial tone and confirmation tone, and *73 to disable. Windstream OfficeSuite UC manages forwarding through the WE Connect dashboard's My Call Forwarding widget.
- Always confirm the exact product name before using any code.
- Wireless codes and business landline codes are not interchangeable, even from the same carrier.
- Most systems confirm activation with a tone, a message, or a successful test call.
- If a code does nothing, your plan may not include that feature; contact your provider.

Test the Setup and Manage It Day to Day
Once forwarding is on, test it from an outside phone, such as a friend's cell. Call your business number and confirm the call arrives on your cell phone with correct caller information. For conditional forwarding, let the business line ring out and confirm the call reaches your cell after the ring count.
Remember that forwarding is easy to forget about. If you forward all calls and never turn it off, calls will bypass your office phone indefinitely. Turn forwarding off with the matching deactivation code, such as *73 on many services, whenever you are back at the desk. Also keep in mind that forwarded calls may use plan minutes or incur per-minute charges depending on your provider and plan.
- Place a test call from a different phone after activating.
- Test each condition separately if you set up no-answer, busy, or unreachable forwarding.
- Write down the activation and deactivation codes for your service.
- Turn forwarding off when you return, so office phones ring normally again.

When Forwarding to Your Cell Is Not Enough
Forwarding to a cell phone works well when you can answer. It does nothing when you are on another call, driving, or asleep; the caller simply rings through to your cell's voicemail or gives up. For many owners, that is where an answering service earns its keep.
AllDayDesk is an AI receptionist that answers your business calls around the clock using the business information you save. You keep your existing business number by forwarding calls to it, using the same forwarding steps covered above. Setup starts by choosing your business or entering its website, checking the details it found, hearing a personalized sample greeting, and then choosing your phone setup. Calls, transcripts, summaries, and bookings all show up in your dashboard. New appointments go on the built-in AllDayDesk calendar once you have configured your services and availability, and an optional Google Calendar connection is available in Settings after you connect and authorize your account. When the answer, price, or appointment time is unknown, it takes a message instead of guessing. If you want calls handed to you directly, you can configure a transfer destination and rules, though pickup is not guaranteed.
Compared with forwarding alone, an answering service handles the calls you cannot pick up and records what was said, so nothing depends on you being free at that moment. Human answering services exist too, and their coverage and pricing vary by provider and plan.

More questions, answered
Can I forward my Google Voice business number to my cell phone?
Google Voice can forward calls to linked phone numbers, so receiving Voice calls on your cell is supported. However, Google explicitly does not support forwarding from a Google Voice number to an automated answering system, so that direction will not work with an AI receptionist.
Does forwarding my business line to my cell cost extra?
It depends on your provider and plan. Some carriers note that charges depend on your plan, and forwarded calls can use minutes. Check your plan details or ask your provider before activating.
Will callers still reach my business voicemail while forwarding is on?
With all-call forwarding, calls bypass the original line, and on some services forwarding overrides that line's voicemail entirely. With conditional forwarding, your business line rings first, so its voicemail only comes into play based on how your conditions are set.
What if the star code does not work on my phone?
First confirm you are using the instructions for your exact product, since codes differ between a carrier's wireless, landline, and hosted business services. If the code still fails, your plan may not include that feature, or your provider may manage forwarding through an online portal or app instead.
Can I forward calls only when I am busy or do not answer?
Yes, if your service supports conditional forwarding. Many do, covering busy, no-answer, and unreachable situations, but support varies by provider, plan, and device, so confirm with your provider for your specific line.
