AI phone answering for your business

24 7 Call Answering Service Law Firm: Around-the-Clock Coverage for Your Practice

A 24 7 call answering service for law firms answers your firm's phone around the clock, including nights, weekends, and holidays. With AllDayDesk, you keep your existing firm phone number and forward your calls to the service. The receptionist answers using your saved business information, takes messages when it cannot answer a question, and logs every call, transcript, summary, and booking in your dashboard. Setup involves choosing your firm or entering its website, checking the details it learned, hearing a personalized sample, and then choosing how to forward your phone. This page explains how around-the-clock coverage works for a law practice, what decisions you control, and how to get started.

How it works

Set up your business receptionist

01

Add your business

Choose your business or enter its website. Check the services, hours, and details callers need.

02

Hear your receptionist

Listen to a sample for your business and check its answers. The sample does not create a real booking.

03

Connect your phone

Follow the steps for your phone service. Set up booking availability and any call transfers you want to use.

Review calls, messages, and bookings in your dashboard.

What a 24 7 answering service does for a law firm

Law firm calls do not follow office hours. A potential client may call at night after an accident, or on a Sunday while comparing firms. With AllDayDesk, calls that arrive when you are unavailable are answered using the business information you save, so callers hear a consistent greeting that mentions your firm by name.

The receptionist answers questions it can answer from your saved details, takes a message when an answer or price is unknown, and records each call. You see calls, transcripts, summaries, and any bookings in your dashboard, so you can review and return messages on your own schedule.

If a caller needs you directly, the receptionist can transfer the call to a destination you configure, along with the rules for when transfers happen. Transfers are not guaranteed to be picked up or answered immediately, so configure your destination and rules carefully.

  • Answers calls around the clock using your saved firm information
  • Takes a message when an answer, price, or appointment is unknown
  • Transfers calls to a destination you set up, using rules you configure
  • Shows calls, transcripts, summaries, and bookings in your dashboard
  • Keeps your existing public phone number through call forwarding

How setup works

Setup starts by choosing your firm from a business listing or entering your firm's website. AllDayDesk builds its knowledge from that information, and you check the details before anything goes live. You then hear a personalized sample of how your receptionist will sound. The sample is a preview only and creates no real booking.

After you approve the sample, you choose your phone setup. Most owners keep their public number and forward calls to AllDayDesk. The forwarding steps depend on your phone service, so you follow the instructions that match your carrier or phone system.

New appointments are booked on the built-in AllDayDesk dashboard calendar by default, once you have configured your services and availability. If you prefer, you can optionally connect Google Calendar in Settings after connecting and authorizing your Google account.

  • Choose your firm or enter its website so the service learns your details
  • Review the learned information before going live
  • Listen to a personalized sample; it creates no real booking
  • Choose phone setup and forward your existing number
  • Appointments default to the AllDayDesk dashboard calendar; Google Calendar is an optional connection in Settings

Forwarding your firm's number

Forwarding instructions depend on your phone service, so identify your exact carrier and product first. For example, Verizon mobile uses *72 plus the destination to forward all calls and *73 to turn it off, while T-Mobile uses **21*1 followed by the destination and # for unconditional forwarding. Comcast Business manages phone features like forwarding through My Account and the Comcast Business App, and Vonage Business Communications enables forwarding from its Call Forwarding setting.

Conditional forwarding, which sends only unanswered or busy calls, is a separate feature and is not verified for every carrier. If your carrier has not published conditional codes for your exact service, check with the carrier's support before relying on it. Unconditional forwarding sends all calls, while conditional forwarding only catches calls you do not answer.

One important limit: Google Voice does not support forwarding calls from a Google Voice number to an automated system, so firms on Google Voice should confirm their phone arrangement before choosing this route.

  • Verizon mobile: *72 plus destination to activate, *73 to disable
  • T-Mobile: **21*1 plus destination and # for unconditional, ##21# to disable
  • Comcast Business: forwarding managed in My Account or the Comcast Business App, depending on your subscribed services
  • Vonage Business Communications: enable Call Forwarding to a phone number in the settings
  • Google Voice to an automated system is unsupported by Google

Decisions you control as the firm's owner

Most owners answer their own phone, so the service works as coverage for the calls you cannot take rather than a replacement for you. You decide which calls go to the service by choosing unconditional or conditional forwarding, and you decide what the receptionist knows by saving your firm's business information.

You also configure transfer destinations and the rules for when transfers happen. When a caller asks something the receptionist does not know, such as a case-specific answer or a fee amount, it takes a message instead of guessing. Existing appointment changes are requests for you to approve, not confirmed changes.

Your dashboard is where you review everything. Calls, transcripts, summaries, and bookings are visible there, so you can follow up with new callers promptly and keep records of what was said.

  • Choose unconditional or conditional forwarding based on when you want coverage
  • Save and review the business information the receptionist uses
  • Configure transfer destinations and rules yourself
  • Approve appointment-change requests; they are not confirmed automatically
  • Review calls, transcripts, summaries, and bookings in the dashboard

Comparing AI and human answering options

Human answering services exist for law firms. Ruby advertises live virtual receptionist plans starting at $245 per month as of October 2026, and Smith.ai offers both human per-call receptionist pricing and a separate AI receptionist product. AnswerConnect offers 24/7 live answering by people. These are documented offerings from their own pages, not hands-on test results, and starting prices do not show the full cost, since included allowances, overages, hours, and contracts vary.

An in-house receptionist does more than answer phones; the Bureau of Labor Statistics describes receptionist duties that include greeting visitors and office tasks, so a phone service is not a full employee replacement. Compare the scope of what you need before deciding.

AllDayDesk is this site's own product. It answers around the clock using your saved business information, with pricing displayed separately from this page. When comparing options, look at coverage hours, how messages reach you, what the dashboard shows, and how each service handles questions it cannot answer.

More questions, answered

Do I have to change my firm's phone number?

No. You keep your public number and forward calls to AllDayDesk. The forwarding steps depend on your phone service, and you choose whether to forward all calls or only the ones you do not answer.

Can the receptionist book consultations?

Yes, once you have configured your services and availability, new appointments are booked on the built-in AllDayDesk dashboard calendar by default. You can optionally connect Google Calendar in Settings after connecting and authorizing your account.

What happens when a caller asks a legal question?

When an answer, price, or appointment is unknown, the receptionist takes a message instead of guessing. You see the call, transcript, and summary in your dashboard and can follow up yourself.

Does the sample call book a real appointment?

No. The personalized sample you hear during setup is a preview only and creates no real booking.

Can I forward a Google Voice number to AllDayDesk?

Google explicitly does not support forwarding calls from a Google Voice number to an automated system, so that arrangement will not work. Use a phone service that supports forwarding to another number.

Are call transfers guaranteed to connect?

No. Transfers require you to configure a destination and rules, and neither pickup nor an immediate response is guaranteed. Configure your transfer settings carefully.
