AI phone answering for your business
A 24 7 virtual receptionist answers your business phone around the clock without you hiring anyone. Callers dial your regular number, and a receptionist service picks up in your business's voice, answers common questions, takes messages, and can book appointments. With AllDayDesk, setup starts by choosing your business or entering its website, checking the details it pulled, hearing a personalized sample, and then choosing how to forward your phone. You keep your public number; forwarding instructions depend on your phone service. The sample call is a demo, not a real booking. Once you are set up, calls, transcripts, summaries, and bookings show up in your dashboard. This page explains what a 24 7 virtual receptionist actually does, what happens when the receptionist does not know an answer, how to compare AI and human options, and what to check before you commit.

How it works
Choose your business or enter its website. Check the services, hours, and details callers need.
Listen to a sample for your business and check its answers. The sample does not create a real booking.
Follow the steps for your phone service. Set up booking availability and any call transfers you want to use.
Review calls, messages, and bookings in your dashboard.
A 24 7 virtual receptionist handles your incoming calls whenever they arrive, including nights, weekends, and holidays, so you do not have to answer every ring yourself. The receptionist works from information you save about your business, such as your services, hours, and common questions.
With AllDayDesk, the receptionist answers questions using your saved business details, takes messages, and books new appointments. New appointments go on the built-in AllDayDesk dashboard calendar by default, once you have configured your services and availability. If you prefer Google Calendar, you can optionally connect and authorize your Google account in Settings.
Everything is visible to you: calls, transcripts, summaries, and bookings appear in your dashboard, so you can review what was said and follow up on your own schedule.
Setup starts by choosing your business or entering its website. AllDayDesk pulls details from that information, and you check them for accuracy. You then hear a personalized sample of how the receptionist would sound for your business. This sample is a demonstration only; it does not create a real booking or change anything on your calendar.
Next you choose your phone setup. You keep your public number by forwarding calls to AllDayDesk, and the exact forwarding instructions depend on your phone service. For example, Verizon mobile uses *72 plus the destination for all-call forwarding and *71 for unanswered calls, while T-Mobile uses codes like **21*1 for unconditional forwarding. Many business phone systems, such as Spectrum Business Voice or Vonage Business Communications, manage forwarding through an online portal instead of star codes. Check your provider's own instructions before activating anything.
One important exception: Google Voice does not support forwarding calls from a Google Voice number to an automated system, so a Google Voice line is not a compatible forwarding source for this kind of service.

A good around-the-clock receptionist knows its limits. When a caller asks something the receptionist cannot answer from your saved information, such as an exact price for an unusual job or whether you can fit someone in tomorrow, it takes a message instead of guessing. You see the message in your dashboard and decide how to respond.
Changes to existing appointments work the same way. If a caller wants to move or cancel an existing appointment, the receptionist records that as a request for you to review, rather than confirming the change on its own. This keeps your calendar accurate and puts final decisions in your hands.
Call transfers are also available, but they depend on your configuration. You set up a transfer destination and the rules for when transfers happen. Because transfers depend on the destination phone being available, neither pickup nor an immediate response is guaranteed on every transfer.
Both AI and human virtual receptionist services advertise around-the-clock coverage, but they work differently. Human services, such as Ruby, AnswerConnect, and Smith.ai's live receptionist plans, staff real people who answer in your business name. Smith.ai also offers a separate AI receptionist product with on-demand escalation to its live agent network. Pricing and included allowances vary widely by provider and plan, so compare current quotes rather than assuming one model always costs less.
AllDayDesk is an AI receptionist, which is this site's own product. It answers using your saved business information, books on your configured calendar, and shows everything in a dashboard. The honest way to compare options is to list what each service documents: coverage hours, how appointments are handled, what happens on unknown questions, pricing structure, and contract terms. Note that a phone answering service is not a full replacement for an in-house receptionist, whose duties also include greeting visitors and office tasks.
Whichever type you choose, ask each provider the same questions: What exactly happens when the receptionist cannot answer something? How are appointment changes handled? What is included in the monthly price and what costs extra? How do I get my call records?

Before committing to any 24 7 virtual receptionist, confirm the practical details that affect your day-to-day. First, verify that your phone service can forward calls the way the service requires, and note whether forwarding replaces your voicemail while active. All-call forwarding sends every call away from your original line, so make sure that matches what you want.
Second, understand the pricing model. Plans typically include a set number of minutes with a per-minute rate for overages, so estimate your typical call volume. Third, confirm how appointments flow: which calendar is used, how you configure services and availability, and how changes to existing appointments reach you. Fourth, check how you review activity; you should be able to see calls, transcripts, summaries, and bookings without calling support.
Finally, be realistic about availability claims. Around-the-clock availability describes when the service can take calls, not a guarantee that every single call connects. Ask any provider you evaluate how they describe their own coverage limits.
