AI phone answering for your business
An answering and scheduling service answers your business phone when you can't, gathers caller details, and books appointments based on your services and availability. AllDayDesk is this site's own answering and scheduling service: it answers calls around the clock using the business information you save, takes messages when it can't answer a question, and creates bookings in a built-in dashboard calendar. You keep your existing phone number by forwarding calls to the service, and you can see calls, transcripts, summaries, and bookings in your dashboard. Setup involves choosing your business or entering its website, checking the details it pulls in, hearing a personalized sample, and then turning on call forwarding with your phone provider.

How it works
Choose your business or enter its website. Check the services, hours, and details callers need.
Listen to a sample for your business and check its answers. The sample does not create a real booking.
Follow the steps for your phone service. Set up booking availability and any call transfers you want to use.
Review calls, messages, and bookings in your dashboard.
When a customer calls and you're on a ladder, under a sink, or with another client, the call goes to your service instead of ringing out. The service answers in your business's name, uses the information you've saved about your hours, services, and pricing, and either books an appointment or takes a message.
Scheduling is the part that separates this from a plain answering service. Instead of just writing down a name and number for you to call back, the service checks your availability and books the appointment directly. In AllDayDesk, new appointments go into the built-in dashboard calendar by default once you've configured your services and availability. If you prefer, you can optionally connect Google Calendar in Settings after connecting and authorizing your Google account.
One important limit: changes to existing appointments are captured as requests for you to review, not confirmed changes. The service records what the caller wants to move or cancel and surfaces it in your dashboard so you make the final call.
Setup starts by choosing your business from a list or entering its website. AllDayDesk pulls in publicly available details, and you check them for accuracy before anything goes live. You then hear a personalized sample of how your calls would be answered, so you know what callers will experience before you commit.
Next comes phone setup. You keep your public number by forwarding calls to the service, and the exact steps depend on your phone provider. For example, Verizon mobile uses *72 plus the destination number for all-call forwarding and *73 to turn it off, while T-Mobile uses codes like **21*1 followed by the destination and # for unconditional forwarding. Business landline and hosted systems, such as Spectrum Business Voice or Comcast Business, manage forwarding through their online portals instead.
The key distinction is unconditional versus conditional forwarding. Unconditional forwarding sends every call to the service. Conditional forwarding only sends calls when you don't answer, are busy, or your phone is unreachable, so you still answer your own phone during working hours. Not every carrier or plan supports every conditional option, so check your provider's specific instructions before choosing.

A caller reaches the service, which greets them using your business information and asks what they need. If the caller wants an appointment, the service checks your configured services and availability and books a slot. If the caller asks something the saved information doesn't cover, like a price for an unusual job or a question about an existing appointment, the service takes a message instead of guessing.
Everything shows up in your dashboard: the call record, a transcript, a summary, and any booking that was made. You review messages and appointment-change requests on your own schedule and follow up as needed.
Transfers to you are also possible, but you have to configure a transfer destination and the rules for when transfers happen. Even then, a transfer isn't guaranteed to connect or get an immediate response from you, so the service works best when you also want messages captured for anything you miss.
You have three broad routes for handling calls: answer everything yourself, hire in-house help, or use an outsourced service. An in-house receptionist does more than answer phones, including greeting visitors and office tasks, so compare scope rather than treating a phone service as a full replacement. Human answering services exist too; for example, Ruby advertises live virtual receptionist plans starting at $245 per month as of October 2026, and Smith.ai uses per-call pricing for its human receptionist service. Those are starting prices only; actual cost depends on included minutes or calls, overage rates, hours, and contract terms on a current quote.
AllDayDesk is this site's own AI-based answering and scheduling service. It differs from human services in that it answers around the clock using your saved business information and books directly into a calendar, and its pricing is displayed separately on this page. When comparing any provider, ask what happens when the service doesn't know an answer, how appointments get into your calendar, and what you pay for overages.
This comparison is based on documented features and published starting prices, not hands-on testing of each service.

This model fits businesses where callers mostly want one thing: an appointment. Plumbers, salons, dentists, HVAC contractors, and similar service businesses get the most value because a booked slot is the outcome, not just a message to return.
It works less well if most of your calls need judgment calls, negotiation, or detailed back-and-forth that your saved information can't cover. In those cases the service will take messages, which still helps, but you'll handle more follow-up yourself.
Before signing up with any provider, make sure you can describe your services and availability clearly, since that's what the service uses to book. If your schedule lives in Google Calendar, confirm the optional connection in Settings works for your workflow after you connect and authorize your account.

No. You keep your public number and forward calls to the service. The forwarding steps depend on your phone provider, and you can usually forward all calls or only unanswered ones.
Google Calendar is supported as an optional connection. After setup, you connect and authorize your Google account in Settings. By default, new appointments use the built-in AllDayDesk dashboard calendar.
When an answer, price, or appointment slot is unknown, the service takes a message. You see the message, transcript, and summary in your dashboard and follow up yourself.
Yes, if you configure a transfer destination and rules for when transfers happen. A transfer isn't guaranteed to connect or get an immediate response, so messages remain useful for anything you miss.
Changes to existing appointments are captured as requests for you, not confirmed changes. The service records what the caller wants and you approve or handle it in your dashboard.
During setup you hear a personalized sample based on your business details. The sample is a preview only and creates no real booking.
Enter your business name or website, check your details, and listen to a personalized sample of how your calls would be answered and booked. No real booking is made from the sample, so you can try it before forwarding a single call.
