AI phone answering for your business
An answering service business takes your calls when you cannot pick up, so customers reach a helpful voice instead of voicemail. AllDayDesk answers around the clock using the business information you save, books new appointments on a built-in calendar, and takes messages when it does not know an answer. You keep your existing number by forwarding calls, and setup starts by checking your business details and hearing a personalized sample.

How it works
Choose your business or enter its website. Check the services, hours, and details callers need.
Listen to a sample for your business and check its answers. The sample does not create a real booking.
Follow the steps for your phone service. Set up booking availability and any call transfers you want to use.
Review calls, messages, and bookings in your dashboard.
When a customer calls and you are on a ladder, under a sink, or with your family, the call goes to the service instead of ringing out. The receptionist greets the caller, uses the business details you saved, and handles the call the way you would want it handled.
AllDayDesk answers calls around the clock. It books new appointments once you have set up your services and availability, and it takes a message whenever it does not know an answer, a price, or an opening. If a caller needs you directly, it can transfer the call to a destination you configure, with rules you set. Transfers are not guaranteed to be picked up, so messages remain the safe path for anything uncertain.
Changes to existing appointments are passed to you as requests, not confirmed changes, so you stay in control of your schedule.
You do not write a script from scratch. Setup starts by choosing your business or entering its website. AllDayDesk pulls the public details, you check that they are correct, and then you hear a personalized sample of how your calls would sound. The sample is a preview only and creates no real booking.
If the details are wrong or missing, you fix them before going live. That saved information is what the receptionist uses to answer questions, describe services, and book the right kind of appointment.
You keep the public number your customers already know. Instead of changing it, you forward calls to AllDayDesk. The exact instructions depend on your phone service, because each carrier and phone system uses its own steps.
Examples from published carrier guides: Verizon mobile uses *72 plus the destination for all calls, *71 for unanswered calls, and *73 to turn forwarding off. T-Mobile uses **21*1, destination, and # for unconditional forwarding, with separate codes for no-reply, unreachable, and busy. Optimum Business Phone uses *72, then the destination, and *73 to disable. Spectrum Business Voice manages forwarding through the SpectrumBusiness.net portal rather than star codes. These examples show the range; always confirm the steps for your exact service before activating.
One important limit: Google Voice does not support forwarding calls to an automated system, so a Google Voice number is not a workable path to AllDayDesk.

New appointments go on the built-in AllDayDesk dashboard calendar by default, once you have configured your services and availability. That means the receptionist can offer real openings instead of guessing.
If you already run your schedule in Google Calendar, AllDayDesk supports an optional connection. You connect and authorize your Google account in Settings. Other calendar systems and industry scheduling software are not part of the service, so plan around the built-in calendar or the Google Calendar connection.
Answering services are priced in different ways. Human receptionist services often charge per call or by monthly plan; for example, Ruby advertises plans starting at $245 per month as of October 2026, and Smith.ai uses per-call pricing for its human receptionists. Starting prices do not tell the whole story, because included minutes, overage rates, hours, and contracts all affect the real cost.
AllDayDesk plans include a set number of minutes each month with a per-minute rate for extra time. Current plan prices and details are displayed separately on this page so you can compare them directly.

An answering service fits best when you are the one answering the phone today and calls come in while you are working, driving, or closed. If a missed call means a lost job, having calls handled around the clock protects that work without hiring anyone.
It is less of a fit if your calls need specialized handling the service cannot do, such as giving prices you have not saved, or if you need connections to dispatch software, a CRM, or health records systems, which AllDayDesk does not have. It also does not replace an in-office receptionist who greets visitors and handles paperwork; it covers the phone.
A simple way to decide: look at your recent missed calls. If they are customers asking about services, pricing, or openings, an answering service can handle them. If they need decisions only you can make, the service will take messages and pass them along.
