AI phone answering for your business
An answering service for a lawyer takes calls when you are with a client, in court, or away from the desk. AllDayDesk answers calls around the clock using your firm's saved business information. You keep your public phone number by forwarding it to AllDayDesk, and setup starts by choosing your business or entering its website, checking the details, and hearing a personalized sample. Callers can leave messages, and new appointments can be booked into the built-in AllDayDesk dashboard calendar once you have configured your services and availability. Everything — calls, transcripts, summaries, and bookings — shows up in your dashboard. This page explains what a legal answering service actually does, what decisions you should make before signing up, and how to connect your existing number.

How it works
Choose your business or enter its website. Check the services, hours, and details callers need.
Listen to a sample for your business and check its answers. The sample does not create a real booking.
Follow the steps for your phone service. Set up booking availability and any call transfers you want to use.
Review calls, messages, and bookings in your dashboard.
When a potential client calls a law office, they often want three things: to reach a person, to describe their situation, and to get an appointment. An answering service handles those calls so the phone does not ring unanswered while you are in a hearing or meeting with a client.
AllDayDesk answers using the business details you save, so callers hear information about your firm rather than a generic greeting. When a caller asks something the service does not know — like a specific legal question or a fee quote — it takes a message instead of guessing.
Existing appointment changes work differently from new bookings: a caller asking to move or cancel an appointment creates a request for you to review, not a confirmed change. That keeps your calendar accurate and puts the final decision with you.
Before signing up for any answering service, work through a few practical questions. These apply whether you choose AllDayDesk or another provider, and answering them first makes setup faster.
Start with what should happen to each type of call. Which calls should be booked as appointments, which should become messages, and which should be transferred to you directly? Transfers in AllDayDesk require you to configure a destination number and rules, and neither pickup nor an immediate response is guaranteed, so decide what belongs in a transfer rule versus a message.
Next, decide where appointments live. AllDayDesk uses its built-in dashboard calendar by default once you have set up your services and availability. If you prefer Google Calendar, an optional connection is available in Settings after you connect and authorize your Google account. Other calendar or practice-management software is not part of the documented setup.
Finally, think about scope. A phone service handles calls, messages, and bookings; it does not replace the other duties an in-house receptionist covers, such as greeting visitors and handling office paperwork.

You keep your public phone number. Setup works by forwarding calls from your existing number to AllDayDesk, and the exact instructions depend on your phone service. The general flow is the same everywhere: pick your business or enter its website, check the details AllDayDesk found, hear a personalized sample, then choose your phone setup option.
If your firm uses Verizon mobile, all-call forwarding is activated by dialing *72 plus the 10-digit destination from the phone itself, and *73 disables it. Verizon business landline also uses *72 and *73 from the same line. T-Mobile uses **21*1 followed by the destination and # for unconditional forwarding, with ##21# to disable. For Optimum Business Phone, dial *72, wait for dial tone, then dial the destination; *73 turns it off.
Other providers differ. Spectrum Business Voice manages forwarding through the SpectrumBusiness.net portal under Voice Settings or Forwarding Manager. Vonage Business Communications uses the Call Forwarding setting to forward calls to a phone number. Frontier, Comcast Business, AT&T, and Windstream each have product-specific steps, so identify the exact service name on your bill before following any guide.
One important limit: Google Voice does not support forwarding calls from a Google Voice number to an automated system, so firms on Google Voice should verify their options with their provider rather than assuming forwarding will work.

Every call handled by AllDayDesk leaves a record in your dashboard. You can review calls, read transcripts, check summaries, and see any appointments that were booked. This gives you a clear picture of who called, what they needed, and what follow-up is on your plate.
Messages matter for a law practice because callers frequently ask questions the service should not answer — case specifics, fee quotes, or whether the firm takes their type of matter. Those become messages you review and return on your own judgment.
Before going live, make sure your services and availability are configured in the dashboard so new appointments land on the right days and times. You can also listen to a personalized sample during setup to hear how your firm will sound before any real caller does.
Answering services are priced in different ways. Human virtual receptionist services often charge monthly plans or per-call rates; for example, Ruby advertises plans starting at $245 per month and Smith.ai uses per-call pricing for its human receptionist service. Starting prices are not complete comparisons — you need to check included minutes or calls, overage charges, hours covered, and contract terms on a current quote.
AllDayDesk plans include a set of minutes each month with a per-minute rate for extra use, and pricing is displayed separately on this page rather than written into the copy. Compare total expected monthly cost against your call volume, not just the headline number.
Coverage also varies. AllDayDesk answers around the clock, but around-the-clock availability is not a promise that every single call connects. Human services vary in hours and fees by plan. Match the coverage pattern to when your callers actually call.

Each plan includes call minutes. Extra minutes cost more. See your estimate before you start. Your first 30 calls are free, with no credit card. Paid plans are monthly; cancel anytime.
No. You keep your public number and forward calls to AllDayDesk. The forwarding steps depend on your phone provider, so identify your exact service before activating.
New appointments can be booked into the built-in AllDayDesk dashboard calendar once you have configured your services and availability. An optional Google Calendar connection is available in Settings after you connect and authorize your Google account.
When an answer, price, or appointment detail is unknown, the service takes a message for you instead of guessing. You review it in the dashboard and follow up yourself.
Transfers are possible, but you must configure a destination number and rules first. Neither pickup nor an immediate response is guaranteed, so treat transfers as one option among messages and bookings.
Requests to change an existing appointment are passed to you for review. They are requests, not confirmed changes, so you keep control of your calendar.
Google states that forwarding calls from a Google Voice number to an automated system is unsupported. Firms using Google Voice should confirm their options with their provider.
Enter your firm's website, check your business details, and listen to a personalized sample before you connect anything. Setup starts with choosing your business and ends with forwarding your existing number — no new phone line required.
