AI phone answering for your business
A nationwide answering service answers your business phone for callers anywhere in the country using the number you already have. You keep your public number and forward calls to the service, so callers in any state get the same answers. AllDayDesk is available around the clock, and calls, transcripts, summaries and bookings appear in your dashboard. This page explains how coverage works and how to forward calls.

How it works
Choose your business or enter its website. Check the services, hours, and details callers need.
Listen to a sample for your business and check its answers. The sample does not create a real booking.
Follow the steps for your phone service. Set up booking availability and any call transfers you want to use.
Review calls, messages, and bookings in your dashboard.
A nationwide answering service handles your incoming calls no matter where the caller is calling from. The caller dials your normal business number. That call is forwarded to the service, which answers using your saved business information, so the experience is the same for a customer in your hometown and a customer three states away.
Nationwide coverage matters most for businesses whose customers are spread out: companies that serve multiple regions, businesses that moved or expanded, mobile or on-site services that work across a wide area, and anyone whose single phone number rings for callers in many time zones. The service is available around the clock, so a late-night caller on the West Coast and an early-morning caller on the East Coast both reach the same answering setup.
One thing to understand up front: around-the-clock availability is not a promise that every single call connects. Networks can fail and calls can drop for reasons outside any service's control. What the service provides is continuous availability to answer during the hours you want covered, with your business details at hand.
You do not need a new phone number for nationwide coverage. Setup starts by choosing your business or entering its website, checking the details it saved, and hearing a personalized sample. Then you choose phone setup, and the exact steps depend on who provides your phone service. In general, you turn on call forwarding from your phone or your provider's account settings and point it at the number AllDayDesk gives you.
Forwarding instructions differ by provider and product, so identify your exact service first. Some examples from provider documentation: Verizon mobile uses *72 plus the 10-digit destination for all-call forwarding and *73 to turn it off, with setup done from the phone while in Verizon coverage. T-Mobile uses **21*1 followed by the destination and # for unconditional forwarding and ##21# to disable it. AT&T Phone for Business uses *72, the destination, then # for all calls, and *92 for no-answer forwarding. Spectrum Business Voice manages forwarding through the SpectrumBusiness.net portal under Voice Settings or Forwarding Manager rather than star codes.
Two cautions worth knowing. First, unconditional (all calls) forwarding and conditional (busy or no-answer) forwarding are different features, and a code for one does not work for the other. Second, Google Voice explicitly does not support forwarding calls from a Google Voice number to an automated system, so a Google Voice number is not a compatible path to this kind of service.

When a call comes in, the service answers using the business information you saved and reviewed. It can share information about your business, take messages, and book new appointments once you have configured your services and availability in the built-in AllDayDesk dashboard calendar. If you prefer, you can connect Google Calendar in Settings after connecting and authorizing your Google account; that connection is optional and set up by you.
Not every request can be completed on the call. If a caller asks something the service does not know, such as a price that is not saved or an opening the calendar cannot confirm, it takes a message so you can follow up. Changes to existing appointments are passed to you as requests rather than confirmed changes, so you stay in control of your schedule.
Transfers to you are possible, but you have to configure a transfer destination and the rules for when transfers happen. Even then, a transfer is not guaranteed to connect or to get an immediate response from you, so the service also takes ordinary messages as a normal part of handling calls.
Nationwide coverage itself is table stakes; most services that answer over the phone network can take calls from any area code. The real differences are in who or what does the answering, what happens after the call, and what it costs. Comparing documented features rather than hands-on tests, here is how the main options differ.
Human answering services, such as Ruby, AnswerConnect, and Smith.ai's live receptionist service, use people to answer calls. Pricing and coverage hours vary by plan and quote; Ruby's page, for example, advertises plans starting at $245 per month as of October 2026, but starting price alone does not tell you the included allowance, overage rates, hours, or contract terms. Smith.ai also sells a separate AI receptionist product with escalation to its own live agent network, which is a feature of that service and not of AllDayDesk.
AllDayDesk, the service on this site, uses an AI receptionist built from your business information. It is available around the clock, shows calls, transcripts, summaries and bookings in your dashboard, and books into the dashboard calendar or an optional Google Calendar connection you authorize. When comparing any provider, ask what happens when the answerer does not know something, how you get your messages, whether appointment changes reach you as requests, and what the total monthly cost is including overages.

Setup with AllDayDesk follows the same steps no matter where your callers are. Work through this list and you will know exactly what is covered before your first forwarded call arrives.
First, choose your business or enter its website so the service can save your business details, then check those details and correct anything wrong. Second, listen to the personalized sample so you know how calls will sound; the sample does not create a real booking. Third, choose phone setup and follow the forwarding instructions for your specific provider, then place a real test call from an outside line to confirm forwarding works. Fourth, configure your services and availability so new appointments can be booked into the dashboard calendar, and decide whether to connect Google Calendar in Settings. Finally, check the dashboard after your first calls to review transcripts, summaries and messages.

No. You keep your public number and forward calls to the service. The forwarding steps depend on your phone provider, so identify your exact service before using any code or portal instructions.
The service is available around the clock for callers dialing your forwarded number from anywhere in the country. Availability is not a guarantee that every call connects, since networks can fail on their own.
No. Google states that forwarding calls from a Google Voice number to an automated system is unsupported. Use a number from a phone provider whose forwarding works with the destination you choose.
New appointments go to the built-in AllDayDesk dashboard calendar by default, once you have configured your services and availability. You can optionally connect Google Calendar in Settings after connecting and authorizing your Google account.
It takes a message instead of guessing, so you can follow up with the right answer. Changes to existing appointments also reach you as requests rather than confirmed changes.
Transfers are possible after you configure a transfer destination and rules. A transfer is not guaranteed to connect or to get an immediate response, which is why message taking remains a normal part of call handling.
Enter your business name or website, check the saved details, and listen to a personalized sample of how your nationwide calls would sound. The sample creates no real booking, and you keep your existing number.
