Call Forwarding App for Business
A call forwarding app for business is software that lets you control where incoming calls ring, usually from a smartphone or web dashboard, instead of dialing star codes on a desk phone. Some apps belong to your phone provider, like the Comcast Business App or a Vonage or Spectrum portal, and manage forwarding for that provider's service. Others are standalone business phone apps with their own numbers. The right choice depends on who provides your phone service today, whether you want to keep your existing public number, and whether you need forwarding to reach a person, a voicemail box, or an answering service. This guide explains how app-based forwarding works, how it differs from carrier star codes, what to check before you rely on it, and how to connect forwarding to an answering service like AllDayDesk, which is this site's own product.

What a Call Forwarding App Actually Does
Call forwarding sends an incoming call to a different number. An app-based approach means you manage that setting through software: you open an app or web portal, pick a destination number, and turn forwarding on or off. The call itself still travels over your phone carrier's network; the app is the control panel, not a new phone line.
There are two common types. Provider apps and portals manage forwarding for the phone service you already pay for. For example, Comcast Business customers can manage phone features like forwarding through My Account and the Comcast Business App, and features depend on which services are subscribed. Vonage Business Communications lets users select Call Forwarding and enable forwarding calls to a phone number. Spectrum Business Voice customers sign in to SpectrumBusiness.net, open Voice, choose the phone number, and use Voice Settings or Forwarding Manager to enable forwarding and set the destination.
Standalone business phone apps work differently: they give you a new number inside the app, and calls to that number can be routed to your cell, desk phone, or voicemail. This can be useful if you do not want to touch your existing carrier setup, but it usually means publishing a new number or porting your old one.
- Provider app or portal: manages forwarding for your existing phone service
- Standalone app: creates a new business number with its own routing rules
- In both cases, the app changes settings; your carrier or provider still carries the call
- Forwarding usually covers calls only, not text messages

App Setup vs. Carrier Star Codes
The older way to forward calls is dialing a star code from the phone itself. On Verizon mobile, for example, you call *72 plus the 10-digit destination to forward all calls, *71 for unanswered calls, and *73 to turn forwarding off, and the setup must be done from the mobile phone while in Verizon coverage. T-Mobile uses codes like **21*1 followed by the destination and # for unconditional forwarding, with ##21# to disable.
App and portal setup does the same job without memorizing codes. The trade-off is that app controls only exist if your provider built them. Many landline and hosted voice services do offer portals: Optimum Business Phone customers can manage forwarding through features in My Optimum Voice, and Frontier Digital Voice has portal settings under Settings, Call Settings, Call Forwarding.
A practical check: identify the exact name of your phone service, often shown on your bill, then look for that product's own app or portal instructions. Instructions for one product, like AT&T Collaborate, do not apply to AT&T wireless or other AT&T business products, and the same is true across most providers.
- Star codes: dial from the phone itself, no app needed, but easy to forget
- Apps and portals: easier to change destinations, but only exist for supported services
- Always match instructions to your exact product name, not just the brand
- Some services support all-call forwarding but not conditional (busy or no-answer) forwarding through every channel

How to Choose a Forwarding Setup for Your Business
Start with your current phone service. If you have a business landline or hosted voice plan, check whether your provider already includes an app or portal with forwarding controls; using it avoids changing numbers or carriers. If you use a mobile phone as your business line, your carrier's codes or device settings may be the simplest path.
Next, decide what should happen when you cannot answer. Forwarding to a second cell phone still leaves the call unanswered if you are busy. Forwarding to voicemail captures a message but nothing more. Forwarding to an answering service means a trained system or service handles the call, takes messages, and can book appointments.
Also think about conditional versus unconditional forwarding. Unconditional (all calls) sends everything away from your line, which suits after-hours coverage. Conditional forwarding only redirects busy or unanswered calls, so you still answer first when you are available. Not every service supports both, so confirm with your provider before counting on it.
- Match the tool to your existing service before adding a new app
- Choose all-call forwarding for full coverage hours; conditional forwarding to keep answering first
- Decide the destination: another phone, voicemail, or an answering service
- Test the destination with a real call from a different phone after any change

Forwarding Your Business Number to AllDayDesk
AllDayDesk answers business calls around the clock using the business information you save, and you keep your public phone number by forwarding calls to it. Setup starts by choosing your business or entering its website, checking the details it picked up, hearing a personalized sample of how your calls would be answered, and then choosing your phone setup. The sample is a preview only and creates no real booking.
The forwarding instructions depend on your phone service, because each provider handles it differently. If your provider offers an app or portal, you can usually set the destination there; otherwise you use that provider's star codes. One important limit: Google Voice does not support forwarding calls from a Google Voice number to an automated system, so a Google Voice line is not a compatible path.
Once connected, calls, transcripts, summaries, and bookings appear in your AllDayDesk dashboard. New appointments go on the built-in AllDayDesk calendar by default once you have configured your services and availability, and an optional Google Calendar connection is available in Settings after you connect and authorize your Google account. Changes to existing appointments are sent to you as requests, not confirmed changes. When the answer, price, or appointment time is unknown, the receptionist takes a message instead of guessing.
- Keep your existing public number; forward it to AllDayDesk
- Use your provider's app, portal, or codes, whichever your service supports
- Google Voice numbers cannot be forwarded to an automated system
- Transfers to you require you to configure a destination and rules; pickup is not guaranteed

More questions, answered
Do I need a new phone number to use a call forwarding app?
Not if you use your existing provider's app or portal, or your carrier's star codes; your public number stays the same and forwarding simply redirects calls. Standalone apps that create their own numbers usually mean publishing a new number or porting your old one.
Can I forward only the calls I miss?
That is conditional forwarding, which redirects busy or unanswered calls. Support varies by provider and product, so confirm with your phone service before relying on it. Some services only offer all-call forwarding.
Does forwarding work for text messages too?
Generally no. For example, Verizon's mobile forwarding applies to calls only, not texts. Check your own provider's documentation for message handling.
Can I forward my Google Voice number to an answering service?
Google explicitly states that forwarding calls from a Google Voice number to an automated system is unsupported, so that path will not work. You would need a number from a carrier or provider that supports forwarding to your chosen destination.
How do I know my forwarding is working?
After changing the setting, place a test call to your business number from a different phone and confirm it rings at the destination. Some provider guides, like Optimum's, describe confirmation tones or a destination answering as the signal that activation worked.
