AI phone answering for your business
24 hour call answering means your business phone is covered day, night, weekends, and holidays without you personally picking up every time. With AllDayDesk, you keep your existing phone number and forward your calls to an AI receptionist that answers around the clock using the business information you save. It can share answers, take messages, and book new appointments on a dashboard calendar once you set your services and availability. Setup has four steps: choose your business or enter its website, check the details it pulled, hear a personalized sample, and choose your phone setup. Around-the-clock availability describes when the service can answer — it is not a promise that every single call connects. This page explains how full-time coverage works, what decisions you make before turning it on, and where the honest limits are.

How it works
Choose your business or enter its website. Check the services, hours, and details callers need.
Listen to a sample for your business and check its answers. The sample does not create a real booking.
Follow the steps for your phone service. Set up booking availability and any call transfers you want to use.
Review calls, messages, and bookings in your dashboard.
Full-time answering is one continuous service, not separate day and night plans. The same receptionist handles a 2 p.m. call and a 2 a.m. call, using the same saved business details. That includes evenings, weekends, and holidays, so you do not maintain different rules for different hours.
When a caller asks something the saved information does not cover — an unknown price, a question about an appointment, anything uncertain — the receptionist takes a message instead of guessing. You see calls, transcripts, summaries, and bookings in your dashboard, so nothing depends on you being at the desk.
One honest note: around-the-clock availability is not a guarantee that every call connects. Phone networks, forwarding, and transfers all involve your carrier, and no service can promise universal pickup.
AllDayDesk is an AI receptionist, not a staffed call center. You save your business information once — hours, services, common answers — and the receptionist uses it on every call, at any hour. Most owners answer their own phone, so this works whether you are a one-person operation or simply want coverage when you step away.
Setup starts by choosing your business or entering its website, then checking the details it found. You hear a personalized sample next, so you know exactly how your calls will sound before anything goes live. The sample is a demonstration only — it creates no real booking. Then you choose your phone setup and forward your number.
Forwarding depends on your phone service, and instructions differ by carrier. For example, Verizon mobile uses *72 plus the destination for all-call forwarding and *73 to turn it off, while T-Mobile uses **21*1 followed by the destination and # for unconditional forwarding. You keep your public number either way — callers dial it as always.

New appointments are booked on the built-in AllDayDesk dashboard calendar by default. This works once you have configured your services and availability, so the receptionist knows what can be scheduled and when. If you prefer Google Calendar, an optional connection is available in Settings after you connect and authorize your Google account — it is not automatic.
Changes to existing appointments work differently. A caller asking to move or cancel an existing booking generates a request for you to review, not a confirmed change. That keeps you in control of your schedule while still capturing the request at 3 a.m. if it comes in.
When a caller needs something the receptionist cannot resolve — a price not in your saved details, a question outside your business information — it takes a message. You review messages in the dashboard along with the call transcript and summary, then decide how to follow up.
Some calls should reach a person directly. AllDayDesk can transfer calls to you, but this requires configuration on your end: you set the destination number and the rules for when transfers happen. Without that setup, no transfer occurs.
Two honest limits matter here. A transfer is not guaranteed to be picked up or answered immediately — if you are unavailable, the call may not reach you. And the product facts do not establish what happens after an unsuccessful transfer, so plan your transfer rules with that in mind. For calls that do not need a live handoff, ordinary message taking remains the reliable path.
Full-time coverage comes in two forms. Human answering services staff real people around the clock; published starting prices for such services include Ruby at $245 per month as of October 2026, with Smith.ai using per-call pricing — actual costs depend on the current quote, included allowance, and contract terms. Human services bring judgment and warmth; they also cost more and vary in hours and fees by plan.
An AI receptionist like AllDayDesk answers using your saved business details, shows you transcripts and summaries, and books on a connected calendar. It does not replace a full office employee — in-house reception includes greeting visitors and other tasks beyond the phone, a scope difference worth noting when comparing. This comparison is based on documented features and published prices, not hands-on testing of each service.
A practical way to decide: if your calls are mostly routine — hours, services, booking, taking a message — AI coverage handles the pattern well at a lower, predictable cost. If callers regularly need nuanced judgment or emotional situations handled by a person, weigh a human service or a hybrid approach.

Full-time answering works best when you prepare a few things first. Walk through this short checklist before forwarding your number:
First, confirm your phone service supports forwarding to an outside number and find your carrier's exact instructions — they differ between wireless, landline, and business VoIP products, even from the same provider. Second, write down your services, prices you want shared, and hours. Third, set your availability in the dashboard calendar if you want bookings. Fourth, decide your transfer destination and rules if you want any calls handed to you directly. Finally, listen to the sample call and adjust your saved details until it sounds right.

No. You keep your public number. Callers dial it as always, and forwarding sends the calls to AllDayDesk behind the scenes. The forwarding steps depend on your phone service provider.
Yes, once you have configured your services and availability. New appointments go to the built-in dashboard calendar by default, or to Google Calendar if you optionally connect and authorize your account in Settings.
It takes a message instead of guessing. You see the message, transcript, and summary in your dashboard and follow up yourself.
AllDayDesk is available around the clock, but availability is not a guarantee that every call connects. Carrier networks and forwarding affect whether a specific call goes through.
Yes, as an optional connection. You enable it in Settings and authorize your Google account yourself. It is not connected automatically, and no other external calendars are supported.
No. Transfers require you to configure a destination and rules, and neither pickup nor immediate response is guaranteed. Message taking is a separate capability, not a promised backup for an unanswered transfer.
