AI phone answering for your business
An answer phone service for businesses picks up calls your business phone cannot take, learns your services, prices and policies, and handles each caller the way you would: answering questions, taking messages, and booking appointments. AllDayDesk does this around the clock using your saved business information. You keep your existing phone number by forwarding calls to the service, and you can hear a personalized sample of how your calls would sound before you commit to anything. Setup starts by choosing your business or entering its website, checking the details it pulled in, hearing the sample, and then choosing how to forward your phone. Everything the service does — calls, transcripts, summaries and bookings — shows up in your dashboard.

How it works
Choose your business or enter its website. Check the services, hours, and details callers need.
Listen to a sample for your business and check its answers. The sample does not create a real booking.
Follow the steps for your phone service. Set up booking availability and any call transfers you want to use.
Review calls, messages, and bookings in your dashboard.
When a caller reaches your business line, the service answers in your business's voice and works from the information you saved: your services, prices, hours and policies. It can answer common questions, take a message when it does not know an answer, a price or an opening, and book new appointments on your calendar.
Two limits matter to owners. First, when the service does not know something, it takes a message instead of guessing. Second, changes to existing appointments are passed to you as requests — the caller is told the change is a request, not a confirmed edit. You stay in control of your schedule.
Everything is visible in your dashboard: the calls that came in, transcripts, summaries, and any appointments booked. New appointments go on the built-in AllDayDesk dashboard calendar by default, once you have set up your services and availability. If you prefer, you can connect Google Calendar in Settings after authorizing your Google account — that is the optional external calendar connection that is supported.
You do not need a new number. You keep the one your customers already know by forwarding your calls to the service. The exact steps depend on your phone carrier or phone system, because each one handles forwarding differently.
Some carriers use star codes. For example, Verizon mobile uses *72 plus the destination number for all-call forwarding and *73 to turn it off, while T-Mobile uses codes like **21*1 followed by the destination for unconditional forwarding. Other providers, such as Spectrum Business Voice or Vonage Business Communications, manage forwarding through an online portal or app instead. The instructions differ by product, so check your specific service before entering anything.
One exception to know about: Google Voice does not support forwarding calls from a Google Voice number to an automated system, so a Google Voice line is not a compatible path. If you are unsure how your line forwards, your carrier's support page or the guides below can help.

Setup starts with your business, not paperwork. You choose your business or enter its website, and the service pulls in details like your services and hours. You check those details and correct anything that is off — this is what the service will use when talking to your callers.
Next, you hear a personalized sample of how your calls would be handled. This sample is a demonstration only: it does not create a real booking or commit you to anything. If you like what you hear, you move on to choosing your phone setup and forwarding your line.
There is no fixed setup time to promise — the steps are simple, but forwarding instructions depend on your carrier, so the pace depends on your phone service.
Answer phone services come in a few shapes. Human answering services staff phones with people around the clock — AnswerConnect, for example, offers 24/7 live answering by people. Human virtual receptionist services like Ruby and Smith.ai price their plans in different ways, and their costs depend on the plan details, so compare current quotes directly.
An in-house receptionist does more than answer phones — greeting visitors and handling office tasks are part of the role — so a phone service is not a full replacement for one. AI-based services like AllDayDesk answer using your saved business information, which keeps costs predictable and makes the service available around the clock, though availability does not guarantee every single call connects.
When comparing, look past the headline price: check what is included, what extra minutes or calls cost, whether the service can book appointments or only take messages, and how changes to existing appointments are handled. AllDayDesk is the service on this site, and this comparison reflects documented features rather than hands-on testing of competitors.

Some calls need a person — a caller who insists, or a situation the service should hand off. AllDayDesk can transfer calls to you, but you configure the destination and the rules for when transfers happen. Because transfers depend on phone networks, neither that the pickup happens nor that you respond immediately can be guaranteed.
For everything else, the service takes an ordinary message: the caller's name, number and what they need, saved to your dashboard so you can follow up. When a caller asks something the service does not know — an answer, a price or an open appointment — it takes a message rather than guessing.

Changes to existing appointments are sent to you as requests, not confirmed changes. The caller is told the change is a request, and you decide whether to make it.
