AI phone answering for your business
An electrical contractor answering service takes your business calls when you are on a ladder, under a panel, or done for the day. AllDayDesk answers calls around the clock using the business information you save, so callers hear your services, pricing basics and availability instead of a ringing phone. It can book new appointments into your calendar, take messages when it does not know an answer, and transfer calls to you when you want to speak with someone directly. You keep your existing phone number by forwarding calls to AllDayDesk, and every call, transcript, summary and booking shows up in your dashboard. Setup starts by choosing your business or entering its website, checking the details it found, hearing a personalized sample, and choosing how to connect your phone.

How it works
Choose your business or enter its website. Check the services, hours, and details callers need.
Listen to a sample for your business and check its answers. The sample does not create a real booking.
Follow the steps for your phone service. Set up booking availability and any call transfers you want to use.
Review calls, messages, and bookings in your dashboard.
Electrical work pulls you away from the phone. You might be inside a ceiling, on a service call across town, or finishing a panel upgrade at 7 p.m. when a customer calls about a quote. An answering service keeps that call from going to voicemail, where many callers simply hang up.
For a contractor, the calls that matter usually fall into a few groups: new job requests, existing customers asking about an appointment, and after-hours inquiries that pile up overnight. AllDayDesk handles all three by answering with your saved business details, booking new appointments, and taking clear messages for anything it cannot answer, such as a price for an unusual job or a question about an existing appointment change.
It is not a human receptionist sitting at a desk. It is an automated receptionist built from your business information, available around the clock. Most owners who use it answer their own phone during the day and let AllDayDesk cover the times they cannot pick up.
New job request: a homeowner calls about a ceiling fan install or a panel upgrade. AllDayDesk answers with your business details, shares what you have saved about your services, and can book the visit directly into your dashboard calendar once you have configured your services and availability. If you have connected Google Calendar in Settings, new bookings can go there instead after you authorize your account.
Existing customer calling about a change: if a caller wants to move or cancel an existing appointment, that is recorded as a request for you, not a confirmed change. You see the request in your dashboard and decide what to do.
After-hours or job-site call: when you are unavailable, calls come to AllDayDesk instead of ringing out. If a caller asks something AllDayDesk does not know, such as a price for a complex job or a question about a specific repair, it takes a message so you can follow up.
Transfer requests: if you want to speak with a caller yourself, AllDayDesk can transfer the call to a destination you configure, along with the rules for when transfers happen. You set the destination and rules up front; a pickup is not guaranteed, so configure transfers only for situations where that fits your workflow.
Setup starts by choosing your business from a list or entering your website. AllDayDesk pulls your public business details, and you check them for accuracy before anything goes live. You then hear a personalized sample of how your calls will sound. The sample is a preview only; it does not create a real booking.
Next you choose phone setup. You keep your current public number by forwarding calls to AllDayDesk, and the forwarding steps depend on your phone service. For example, Verizon mobile uses *72 plus the destination for all-call forwarding and *73 to turn it off, while T-Mobile uses codes like **21*1 followed by the destination and # for unconditional forwarding. Business landline and hosted systems such as Spectrum Business Voice or Comcast Business manage forwarding through their online portals instead. Check your own provider's instructions before forwarding; carriers differ, and Google Voice does not support forwarding to an automated system.
After forwarding is active, configure your services and availability so new appointments can be booked into the built-in dashboard calendar. If you prefer Google Calendar, connect and authorize it in Settings. From then on, calls, transcripts, summaries and bookings appear in your dashboard whenever you check.

AllDayDesk is this site's own product, and this comparison covers documented features rather than hands-on testing of any provider. Human answering services, such as Ruby, which advertises plans starting at $245 per month as of October 2026, and Smith.ai, which uses per-call pricing for human receptionists, staff calls with people. Automated services like AllDayDesk answer with AI built from your business details and are available around the clock.
A few decision points to weigh: hours you need covered, whether you want a human voice on every call, how appointments get booked, and cost structure. Human services vary in hours and fees by plan, so compare included minutes or calls and overage rates on a current quote. AllDayDesk pricing is displayed separately from this page. Also consider scope: an in-house receptionist handles visitors and office tasks beyond the phone, so a phone service is not a full employee replacement.
For many solo electricians and small crews, the practical question is which calls you actually miss. If they are mostly evening and job-site calls, an automated service that answers around the clock and books appointments may fit. If every call needs judgment or a human voice, compare human services on their own quotes.
