AI phone answering for your business
An office phone answering service takes calls for your office when nobody at the desk can pick up. AllDayDesk is an AI receptionist that answers business calls around the clock using the business information you save. You keep your existing public phone number by forwarding calls to the service, and the exact forwarding steps depend on your phone provider. Setup is simple: choose your business or enter its website, check the details it found, hear a personalized sample call, and pick your phone setup. From then on, calls, transcripts, summaries, and bookings show up in your dashboard. New appointments go on the built-in AllDayDesk calendar by default once you've set your services and availability, and an optional Google Calendar connection is available in Settings after you connect and authorize your account. When the service doesn't know an answer, a price, or an open appointment time, it takes a message instead of guessing.

How it works
Choose your business or enter its website. Check the services, hours, and details callers need.
Listen to a sample for your business and check its answers. The sample does not create a real booking.
Follow the steps for your phone service. Set up booking availability and any call transfers you want to use.
Review calls, messages, and bookings in your dashboard.
Most offices have one main number that customers call. When the person at the front desk is already on a call, helping a visitor, at lunch, or gone for the day, that phone can ring without an answer. An answering service covers those moments by picking up in your business's name, answering common questions from information you provide, and collecting messages you can read later.
AllDayDesk works this way. It answers calls around the clock using your saved business details, so callers hear consistent information whether they call at 10 a.m. or 10 p.m. Every call leaves a record in your dashboard: a transcript, a short summary, and any appointment the caller booked. If a caller asks something the service can't answer from your saved information, it takes a message rather than making something up.
One important limit: around-the-clock availability describes when the service can answer, not a promise that every single call connects. Phone networks and forwarding can fail like any technology, so it's smart to check your dashboard regularly to see what came through.
You don't have to change your public phone number. You keep it by forwarding calls to the answering service, and the steps depend on who provides your phone service. Some providers use star codes you dial from the phone itself, while others use an online dashboard or app. Because instructions differ even between products from the same company, first identify the exact service name on your bill.
For example, Verizon mobile lines use *72 plus the 10-digit destination for all-call forwarding and *71 for unanswered calls, while Verizon business landlines use *72 for all-call forwarding (verizon-wireless, verizon-business). T-Mobile uses codes like **21*1 plus the destination for unconditional forwarding (tmobile). Comcast Business features are managed through My Account or the Comcast Business App and depend on which services you subscribe to (comcast). Spectrum Business Voice forwarding is set in the online portal under Voice Settings or Forwarding Manager, where you can choose all calls or busy/no-answer (spectrum-business).
Before relying on forwarding, place a test call from another phone to confirm calls reach the service. If your provider's conditional forwarding (busy or no-answer only) isn't clearly documented for your exact plan, contact their support rather than borrowing another carrier's codes. Note that Google Voice does not support forwarding calls to an automated system, so a Google Voice number isn't a compatible path (google-voice-routing).

Forwarding doesn't have to be all or nothing. Many offices forward every call so the service handles the full flow, while others let calls ring at the desk first and forward only when nobody answers. The right choice depends on how your office works and how quickly someone usually picks up.
With AllDayDesk, transfers work differently from forwarding. When a caller needs a person, the service can transfer the call, but you must first configure a transfer destination and the rules for when transfers happen. A pickup or immediate response is not guaranteed, since the person at the destination may be busy or unavailable. Changes to existing appointments are passed to you as requests for you to confirm, not automatic confirmed changes.
Also decide where new bookings land. By default they go on the built-in AllDayDesk dashboard calendar, which works once you've configured your services and availability. If your office already runs on Google Calendar, you can optionally connect it in Settings after connecting and authorizing your Google account. Other calendar systems and industry scheduling software are not supported connections.
An answering service is one of several ways to cover an office phone, and each has trade-offs. An in-house receptionist handles greeting visitors and other office tasks beyond the phone, so a phone service is not a full replacement for that role (bls). Human virtual receptionist services exist too; for example, Ruby advertises plans starting at $245 per month as of October 9, 2026, and Smith.ai uses per-call pricing for its human receptionist service — but starting prices alone don't tell the whole story, since included minutes, overage rates, hours, and contracts all vary (ruby, smith).
This comparison covers documented features, not hands-on testing, and AllDayDesk is this site's own product. The main differences to weigh are cost structure (monthly minute allowances versus per-call pricing), who or what does the answering, and how appointments and messages reach you. AllDayDesk uses an AI receptionist with plans that include a set number of minutes, shows everything in a dashboard, and books onto a built-in calendar with optional Google Calendar support.
To compare fairly, write down your typical monthly call volume, the questions callers ask most, and how you want bookings handled. Then check each option's included allowance, overage pricing, and whether appointment changes reach you in a form you can act on quickly.

Setup starts by choosing your business from a list or entering its website, so the service can pull together your business details. You then check those details for accuracy, since everything the service tells callers comes from this saved information. Next, you hear a personalized sample call so you know exactly how your receptionist will sound before anything goes live. The sample is a demonstration only and creates no real booking.
After that, you choose your phone setup and follow the forwarding instructions for your provider. Once you're live, check the dashboard to review calls, read transcripts and summaries, and confirm bookings. Take time early on to configure your services and availability, since new appointments use the built-in calendar by default and need that information to book accurately. If you use Google Calendar, connect it in Settings whenever you're ready.

Each plan includes call minutes. Extra minutes cost more. See your estimate before you start. Your first 30 calls are free, with no credit card. Paid plans are monthly; cancel anytime.
No. You keep your existing public number and forward calls to the service. The forwarding steps depend on your phone provider, so identify your exact service first and test with a real call afterward.
When an answer, price, or appointment time isn't in your saved business information, the service takes a message instead of guessing. You can then follow up yourself.
Transfers are possible, but only after you configure a transfer destination and rules for when transfers happen. A pickup or immediate response at the destination isn't guaranteed, since the person there may be busy.
New appointments go on the built-in AllDayDesk dashboard calendar by default, once you've configured your services and availability. You can optionally connect Google Calendar in Settings after authorizing your account. Other calendar systems aren't supported.
No. Google explicitly does not support forwarding calls from a Google Voice number to an automated system, so that path won't work. Use a standard business phone line instead.
Calls, transcripts, summaries, and bookings appear in your dashboard, so you can review what happened and follow up on messages. It's still worth checking the dashboard regularly rather than assuming every call connected.
Enter your business details, listen to a personalized sample call, and decide whether AllDayDesk fits your front desk. The sample costs nothing and creates no real booking.
