AI phone answering for your business
Small business call answering means your phone gets answered when you cannot take it, with messages and details passed to you. AllDayDesk does this with an AI receptionist that answers around the clock using the business information you save. You keep your existing number by forwarding calls, and calls, transcripts, summaries, and bookings show up in your dashboard. The sections below cover what happens on a call, forwarding steps, booking, and the honest limits.

How it works
Choose your business or enter its website. Check the services, hours, and details callers need.
Listen to a sample for your business and check its answers. The sample does not create a real booking.
Follow the steps for your phone service. Set up booking availability and any call transfers you want to use.
Review calls, messages, and bookings in your dashboard.
When a call comes in and reaches AllDayDesk, the receptionist answers using the business details you saved, such as your services, hours, and location. It can answer general questions from that information, take a message, or help a caller book an appointment if you have set up your services and availability.
The receptionist does not guess. If a caller asks something it does not have an answer for, like a price you have not listed or a question outside your saved details, it takes a message so you can follow up yourself. Separately, if you have configured a transfer destination and rules, it can transfer a call to you, though pickup is not guaranteed and depends on your settings.
Everything from the call lands in your dashboard: the call record, a transcript, a summary, and any booking that was made. You review them on your own schedule rather than returning every call blind.
You do not have to change your phone number. You keep the number your customers already know and forward calls to AllDayDesk. The exact steps depend on your phone service, because each carrier handles forwarding differently.
Some examples from carrier documentation: Verizon mobile uses *72 plus the destination number for all-call forwarding and *71 for unanswered calls, with *73 to turn it off. T-Mobile uses codes like **21*1 followed by the destination and # for unconditional forwarding. Comcast Business manages forwarding through My Account or the Comcast Business app, and features depend on which services you subscribe to. Spectrum Business Voice handles forwarding in the online portal under Voice Settings or Forwarding Manager, where you choose all calls or busy/no-answer and set the destination.
One important limit: Google Voice explicitly does not support forwarding calls from a Google Voice number to an automated system, so a Google Voice number is not a compatible path to this service.
Before you activate forwarding, check which exact product or plan you have. Carrier instructions differ between wireless, landline, and hosted business products even from the same company, and some features depend on your plan or device.

Setup starts by choosing your business from a list or entering its website. AllDayDesk then pulls together your business details, and you check them for accuracy before anything goes live. This matters because the receptionist answers from exactly this information, so correcting your services, hours, and location here shapes every future call.
Next, you hear a personalized sample so you know how your business will sound to callers. The sample is a demonstration only and creates no real booking. After that, you choose your phone setup, which is where the forwarding instructions for your specific phone service come in.
There is no fixed setup time to promise, but the path itself is short: business details, sample, phone connection. Once connected, calls that reach the service are handled and logged in your dashboard.
New appointments made through calls go to the built-in AllDayDesk dashboard calendar by default. Before that works fully, you need to configure your services and availability so the receptionist knows what can be booked and when.
If you prefer to work out of Google Calendar, there is an optional connection in Settings. You connect and authorize your Google account yourself, and it is not set up automatically. This Google Calendar connection is the supported external calendar option; other calendar tools and industry scheduling software are not part of the product.
One thing to understand clearly: when a caller wants to change an existing appointment, that is handled as a request for you, not a confirmed change. You review the request and make the actual update, which keeps you in control of your schedule.
Around-the-clock availability describes when the service can answer, not a guarantee that every single call connects. Network conditions and forwarding behavior on your carrier's side affect whether a call reaches the service.
Transfers and message taking are two separate capabilities. Message taking is standard: when the receptionist does not know an answer or a price, it takes a message for you to review in the dashboard. Transfers, on the other hand, only happen if you have configured a destination and rules ahead of time, and neither that the caller is picked up nor that you respond immediately is guaranteed. No particular outcome is promised if a transfer does not connect.
AllDayDesk is a phone answering service. It does not connect to dispatch software, CRMs, health records systems, industry scheduling tools, or calendars other than the optional Google Calendar connection described above. It also does not handle emergency dispatch, verify insurance, or give medical, legal, or financial advice, and callers should not be asked for sensitive medical, legal, financial, or payment details.
Most owners answer their own phone for at least part of the day, so the real question is what happens during the hours you cannot: when you are on another call, on a job site, or closed. A call answering service covers those gaps without you hiring anyone.
Compare your options on a few practical points. Human answering services, such as Ruby, Smith.ai, and AnswerConnect, staff calls with people and typically charge more per month or per call; Ruby's page, for example, advertises plans starting at $245 per month as of October 2026, though you should verify current quotes and included allowances directly. AI receptionists like AllDayDesk answer from your saved business information and log transcripts and bookings in a dashboard. An in-house receptionist does far more than answer phones, including greeting visitors and office tasks, so a phone service is not a full replacement for that role.
Also think about your phone setup. If your number is on Google Voice, forwarding to an automated system is not supported, so you would need a different number path. If you are on a carrier like Verizon, T-Mobile, Comcast Business, or Spectrum, check the forwarding instructions for your exact product before committing.

No. You keep your existing public number and forward calls to AllDayDesk. The forwarding steps depend on your phone service, so you identify your carrier and product during phone setup.
Yes, once you have configured your services and availability. New bookings go to the built-in AllDayDesk dashboard calendar by default, or to Google Calendar if you connect and authorize it in Settings. Changes to existing appointments come to you as requests to review, not confirmed changes.
It takes a message instead of guessing. Unknown prices, unknown answers, and situations outside your saved business details all become messages you can review in the dashboard with the call transcript and summary.
No. Google states that forwarding calls from a Google Voice number to an automated system is unsupported, so a Google Voice number is not a compatible path for this service.
During setup you hear a personalized sample based on your business details. The sample is a demonstration of how calls will sound; it does not create a real booking.
The supported external calendar connection is Google Calendar, set up optionally in Settings after you authorize your account. AllDayDesk does not connect to dispatch systems, CRMs, health records, industry scheduling software, or other calendars.
Enter your business name or website, check the details it finds, and listen to a personalized sample of how your calls would be answered. Setup continues from there with your phone connection, and everything shows up in your dashboard.
