AI phone answering for your business
A virtual assistant phone answering service answers your business calls for you, so you can keep working without stopping to pick up the phone. AllDayDesk is this kind of service: it answers calls around the clock using the business information you save, takes messages, shares details like your hours or prices when it knows them, and can book new appointments. You keep your existing phone number by forwarding your calls, and everything the assistant handles — calls, transcripts, summaries and bookings — shows up in your dashboard. Setup starts by choosing your business or entering its website, checking the details it found, hearing a personalized sample, and then choosing how to forward your phone. When the assistant does not know an answer, a price, or an available time, it takes a message so you can follow up yourself.

How it works
Choose your business or enter its website. Check the services, hours, and details callers need.
Listen to a sample for your business and check its answers. The sample does not create a real booking.
Follow the steps for your phone service. Set up booking availability and any call transfers you want to use.
Review calls, messages, and bookings in your dashboard.
A virtual assistant phone answering service is a service that picks up your business line when you cannot. Instead of a caller reaching voicemail, they reach an assistant that greets them, answers basic questions, and records what they need. The word virtual means the assistant is not sitting in your office — it works from the information you provide about your business.
AllDayDesk answers calls around the clock using your saved business information. That includes your business name, services, hours, and pricing details you choose to share. If a caller asks something the assistant does not know, or wants a price or appointment time that is not in your saved details, it takes a message so you can call back with the right answer.
This is different from a full-time in-house receptionist. A receptionist also greets visitors and handles office tasks beyond the phone, so a phone answering service covers a narrower slice of the job rather than replacing a whole employee.

Setup starts with your business. You choose your business from a list or enter its website, and AllDayDesk pulls together the details it will use on calls. You check those details, correct anything wrong, and then hear a personalized sample so you know exactly how your calls will sound before anything goes live. The sample is a demonstration only — it does not create a real booking.
Next you choose your phone setup. You keep your public phone number; you simply forward your calls to AllDayDesk. The exact forwarding steps depend on your phone service, so the instructions differ by carrier. Once calls are forwarded, the assistant answers them, and you can see every call, transcript, summary and booking in your dashboard.
New appointments are booked into the built-in AllDayDesk dashboard calendar by default, once you have configured your services and availability. If you prefer Google Calendar, you can optionally connect and authorize your Google account in Settings.
Forwarding is the one technical step most owners handle themselves, and it depends on who provides your phone service. Mobile carriers, landline providers, and business phone platforms each use their own activation methods — some use star codes dialed from the phone, others use a web portal or app.
For example, Verizon mobile uses *72 plus the destination number for all-call forwarding and *71 for unanswered calls, with *73 to turn it off. T-Mobile uses codes like **21*1 followed by the destination and # for unconditional forwarding. Comcast Business manages forwarding through My Account or the Comcast Business App, and features depend on which services you subscribe to. Spectrum Business Voice handles it in the online portal under Voice Settings or Forwarding Manager.
One important limit: Google Voice does not support forwarding calls from a Google Voice number to an automated system, so a Google Voice line is not a compatible path. If you are unsure what kind of phone service you have, check your bill or ask your provider which product you are on before following any instructions.

The assistant handles the routine work of the phone: greeting callers, answering questions it can answer from your saved business information, taking messages, and booking new appointments into your configured calendar. It works from what you saved, so the quality of its answers depends on how complete your business details are.
Some things stay with you by design. Changes to existing appointments are requests for you to approve, not confirmed changes. Call transfers to you require you to configure a destination number and rules first, and a transfer is not guaranteed to connect or get an immediate response. And when a caller asks about a price, a policy, or an appointment time the assistant does not know, it takes a message instead of guessing.
You stay in control through the dashboard, where you can review transcripts and summaries of every call and see any bookings that were made.
Virtual assistant answering services generally come in two forms: AI-based and human-based. Human services, like Ruby's live virtual receptionists or Smith.ai's per-call receptionist plans, put trained people on your calls. AI services like AllDayDesk use software trained on your business details. Both approaches exist because owners weigh cost, coverage hours, and consistency differently — human coverage and fees vary by service and plan, so compare current quotes rather than assuming one type always costs more.
When comparing options, look past the headline price. Check what the included allowance covers, what overage charges apply, whether the service covers the hours you actually need, and how you get your messages. Also check how appointments are handled — whether bookings land in a calendar you already use, and whether changes to existing appointments reach you for approval.
AllDayDesk is this site's own product, so this comparison describes documented features rather than hands-on testing of every service. The right fit depends on your call volume, your budget, and how much of the phone work you want handled automatically.
