AI phone answering for your business
A virtual front office is a way to run your business phone line without hiring a front desk employee. Instead of a person sitting at a reception counter, a service answers your calls, takes messages, and can book appointments using information you provide about your business. AllDayDesk is a virtual front office that answers calls around the clock using your saved business details. You keep your existing phone number by forwarding calls to the service, and you can read calls, transcripts, summaries, and bookings in your dashboard. Setup involves choosing your business or entering its website, checking the details it pulled in, hearing a personalized sample, and then choosing how to forward your phone. This page explains what a virtual front office does, what it does not do, and how to decide whether it fits your business.

How it works
Choose your business or enter its website. Check the services, hours, and details callers need.
Listen to a sample for your business and check its answers. The sample does not create a real booking.
Follow the steps for your phone service. Set up booking availability and any call transfers you want to use.
Review calls, messages, and bookings in your dashboard.
Think of a virtual front office as the phone side of a reception desk, handled by a service instead of an in-house employee. When a customer calls your business number, the call is forwarded to the service, which answers using the business information you saved: your services, hours, location, and policies.
AllDayDesk answers calls around the clock, so callers reach help outside your working hours as well as during them. Around-the-clock availability describes when the service is available to answer; it is not a promise that every single call will connect, since phone networks and forwarding can fail like any technology.
The service does real work on each call. It can answer general questions using your saved details, take a message when it does not know an answer or a price, and book new appointments. It does not guess. When an answer, price, or appointment slot is unknown, it takes a message so you can follow up.
Honest scope matters when you are comparing options. A virtual front office is not a full in-house employee. The Bureau of Labor Statistics describes receptionist work as including greeting visitors and handling office tasks beyond the phone, so a phone service covers a narrower slice of the job.
AllDayDesk also does not connect to dispatch software, CRMs, health records systems, or industry scheduling tools. The only external calendar it supports is an optional Google Calendar connection, which you set up and authorize yourself in Settings after your account is working. By default, new appointments go on the built-in AllDayDesk dashboard calendar.
Changes to existing appointments work differently from new bookings: the service passes those requests to you rather than confirming them on its own. And if you want calls transferred to you in certain situations, you must configure a transfer destination and the rules for when transfers happen. A transfer is not guaranteed to be picked up or answered immediately.

Setting up AllDayDesk starts with your business, not with paperwork. You choose your business from a list or enter its website, and the service pulls in details like your services and hours. You then check those details and correct anything that is wrong, because the service answers calls using exactly what you saved.
Next, you hear a personalized sample so you know how your business will sound to callers. The sample is a preview only; it does not create a real booking or affect your calendar. Once you are satisfied, you choose your phone setup option.
Keeping your public number is the normal path: you forward calls from your existing line to the service. The exact forwarding instructions depend on your phone provider, so check the guide for your carrier before entering any codes.
Forwarding instructions vary by provider and product, so identify your exact service first. These verified examples show how different the steps can be.
Verizon mobile users activate all-call forwarding by dialing *72 plus the 10-digit destination from the phone itself, and *73 disables it; *71 handles unanswered calls. Verizon business landlines use *72 and *73 from the same line. T-Mobile uses different short codes: **21*1 followed by the destination and # for unconditional forwarding, with ##21# to disable.
On Optimum Business Phone, you dial *72, wait for dial tone, then dial the destination, and *73 turns it off. Spectrum Business Voice manages forwarding through the SpectrumBusiness.net portal under Voice Settings or Forwarding Manager, where you choose all calls or busy/no-answer conditions. Vonage Business Communications handles forwarding through its Call Forwarding setting, where you enable forwarding to a phone number.
One important exception: Google Voice does not support forwarding calls from a Google Voice number to an automated system, so a Google Voice line is not a compatible path to AllDayDesk.

A virtual front office makes the most sense when your main front desk problem is the phone: missed calls after hours, interruptions while you work, or no one available to answer because you are the staff. If your business also needs someone to greet walk-in visitors, sort mail, or handle in-person paperwork, a phone service covers only part of that role.
Compare your options on scope, not just price. Human virtual receptionist services exist, such as Ruby with plans advertised starting at $245 per month and Smith.ai with per-call pricing for human receptionists, though starting prices alone do not show the full cost since allowances, overages, and hours vary. AllDayDesk is an automated service that answers around the clock using your saved business information, and its plans are priced separately on this site.

After setup, your dashboard is where the work shows up. Every call appears with a transcript and a summary, and any bookings appear as well. Checking the dashboard regularly helps you catch messages the service took when it did not know an answer, so you can call those people back.
Before new bookings can land on your calendar, you need to configure your services and availability in the dashboard calendar. Until that is done, the service will take messages for scheduling requests instead of booking them. If you prefer Google Calendar, connect and authorize it in Settings, and it works alongside the built-in calendar as an optional connection.
Keep your business details current. If you change prices, add a service, or move, update the saved information so callers hear accurate answers. The service only knows what you have saved.

No. You keep your public number and forward calls to AllDayDesk. The forwarding steps depend on your phone provider, so use the guide for your specific carrier and service.
New appointments go on the built-in dashboard calendar by default, but only after you have configured your services and availability. Before that, scheduling requests come to you as messages. An optional Google Calendar connection is available in Settings once you connect and authorize your account.
Transfers are possible, but only after you configure a transfer destination and the rules for when transfers happen. Neither pickup nor an immediate response is guaranteed on a transferred call.
It takes a message instead of guessing. That applies to unknown answers, unknown prices, and scheduling situations it cannot resolve, and you see those messages in your dashboard.
No. The personalized sample you hear during setup is a preview of how your business sounds to callers. It creates no real booking and does not touch your calendar.
No. Google explicitly does not support forwarding calls from a Google Voice number to an automated system, so that path is not compatible. Use a line from a carrier that supports forwarding instead.
Enter your business or its website, check the details, and listen to a personalized sample of how your calls would be answered around the clock. No real bookings happen during the sample, so you can try it with nothing at stake.
