AI phone answering for your business
A virtual phone assistant is a service that answers your business phone for you, so callers reach a helpful voice even when you are on a job, with a customer, or closed for the day. AllDayDesk answers calls around the clock using the business information you save, keeps your existing number through call forwarding, and takes a message whenever it does not know an answer, price, or open appointment time.

How it works
Choose your business or enter its website. Check the services, hours, and details callers need.
Listen to a sample for your business and check its answers. The sample does not create a real booking.
Follow the steps for your phone service. Set up booking availability and any call transfers you want to use.
Review calls, messages, and bookings in your dashboard.
A virtual phone assistant handles your incoming calls without sitting in your office. When a customer calls your business number, the assistant picks up, greets the caller, and uses the details you saved about your business to help them. That can mean answering questions about your services, booking a new appointment, or taking a message for you to review later.
The key word is virtual: there is no desk in your lobby. The assistant works from the business profile you provide, not from guesswork. If a caller asks something you have not saved, like a price you did not list or a question about a specific job, the assistant takes a message so you can respond yourself.
AllDayDesk answers calls around the clock using your saved business information. Around-the-clock availability means the assistant is available to answer whenever a call comes in; it does not guarantee that every single call connects, since phone networks and forwarding can fail like any technology.
Getting started with AllDayDesk follows a few clear steps. First, you choose your business from a list or enter your business website. The assistant builds its understanding from that information, and you check the details to make sure they are correct before anything goes live.
Next, you hear a personalized sample so you know exactly how your calls will sound. The sample is a preview only; it does not create a real booking or change anything on your calendar. If something sounds off, you fix the business details and hear it again.
Finally, you choose your phone setup. You keep your public number by forwarding calls to AllDayDesk. Forwarding instructions depend on your phone service, because each carrier handles it differently. For example, Verizon mobile uses *72 plus the destination number for all-call forwarding and *73 to turn it off, while T-Mobile uses **21*1 followed by the number and # for unconditional forwarding. Comcast Business, Spectrum Business, Vonage, Frontier, and Optimum each have their own steps, often through an online portal instead of star codes.
If you use Google Voice, note that Google explicitly says forwarding calls from a Google Voice number to an automated system is unsupported, so that path will not work for this setup.

Once you have configured your services and availability, new appointments that callers book go on the built-in AllDayDesk dashboard calendar by default. If you prefer to work out of Google Calendar, you can connect it in Settings after you connect and authorize your Google account. That connection is optional, and it is the only external calendar AllDayDesk supports.
Changes to existing appointments work differently. When a caller wants to move or cancel an appointment, the assistant records that as a request for you, not as a confirmed change. You decide whether to accept it, which keeps you in control of your schedule.
Calls leave a trail in your dashboard: the call record, a transcript, a summary, and any booking that was made. You can review these whenever it suits you, which is useful for catching details you would have forgotten from a voicemail.
Transfers to you are also possible, but you need to configure a transfer destination and rules first. Even then, a transfer is not guaranteed to be picked up or answered immediately, so the assistant's message taking remains important for calls you cannot take.
A virtual phone assistant makes the most sense when you are the one answering the phone today and calls interrupt work you cannot pause. Many small business owners answer their own phones, and an assistant takes that job off your hands without hiring anyone.
Think about what you want the assistant to do. If you mainly need someone to answer questions, book new appointments, and take messages, an automated assistant handles that well. If you need judgment calls on complex requests, in-person greeting, or office tasks like filing and paperwork, a phone assistant covers only the phone part of that role. In-house reception work includes greeting visitors and office tasks beyond phone answering, so compare the scope you actually need.
Cost is another factor. Human virtual receptionist services exist and price differently; for example, Ruby advertises plans starting at $245 per month, and Smith.ai uses per-call pricing for its human receptionist service. Those are starting prices only, and real costs depend on included minutes, overage rates, and contract terms. AllDayDesk pricing is displayed separately on this page, so you can compare it against any quote you get.
Finally, check your phone service before committing. Forwarding steps vary by provider, and some services like Google Voice do not support forwarding to automated systems at all. Confirming this early saves frustration later.

Knowing the limits helps you set honest expectations with callers. A virtual phone assistant works from the business information you save, so it will not invent answers. When it does not know a price, an answer, or an open appointment slot, it takes a message for you instead of guessing.
It also does not handle emergencies or specialized requests. It does not connect to dispatch systems, CRM tools, health records, or industry scheduling software, and it does not verify insurance or give medical, legal, or financial advice. Callers with those needs should reach you directly.
Around-the-clock availability describes when the assistant is available to answer, not a promise about phone network reliability. And while transfers to you are supported once you configure them, neither pickup nor an immediate response is guaranteed, which is why reviewing messages in your dashboard matters.
