Transfer Office Calls to Cell Phone: A Step-by-Step Forwarding Guide
Transferring office calls to a cell phone means setting up call forwarding on your office phone service so incoming calls ring your mobile instead of, or in addition to, the desk phone. Most business phone services support this in one of two ways: unconditional forwarding, which sends every call to your cell right away, or conditional forwarding, which only sends calls to your cell when the office line is busy, unanswered, or unreachable. The exact steps depend on your provider and product, so identify your exact service first, then use its own activation code or portal setting. This guide walks through both approaches, what callers experience, and how forwarding pairs with an around-the-clock answering service for the calls you cannot pick up yourself.

Pick the Right Kind of Forwarding
Before you dial anything, decide how you want your cell phone to receive office calls. The two main options behave very differently, and choosing the wrong one can send every caller straight to your mobile even when you are sitting at your desk.
Unconditional (all-call) forwarding sends every incoming call to your cell phone immediately. Your desk phone does not ring. This is useful when you are closing the office, working remotely, or want one number to follow you everywhere.
Conditional forwarding only redirects calls in specific situations: when the line is busy, when nobody answers after a set number of rings, or when the phone is unreachable. Callers who would otherwise hit voicemail instead ring your cell. This is the usual choice when you still answer the office phone during business hours but want missed calls to reach you on the go.
- Unconditional forwarding: every call goes to your cell; the office phone stays silent.
- No-answer forwarding: the office phone rings first, then your cell rings if nobody picks up.
- Busy forwarding: calls route to your cell while the office line is already on a call.
- Unreachable forwarding: calls route to your cell if the office system is down or the phone is off.

Identify Your Exact Phone Service First
Forwarding codes are not universal. The same star code can mean different things on a wireless line versus a business landline from the same company, and some products use a web portal instead of dial codes. Check your bill or provider portal for the exact product name before following any instructions.
If your provider offers several products, using the wrong product's steps can fail silently or forward calls when you did not intend to. When in doubt, call your provider's support line and ask them to confirm the forwarding feature for your specific line.
- Look at your monthly bill for the product name, such as a hosted voice or digital voice service.
- Check whether your provider manages forwarding through an online account or app rather than dial codes.
- Ask support to confirm whether your line supports conditional forwarding, since not every plan or line includes busy, no-answer, or unreachable options.

Activation Steps by Provider
The steps below come from each provider's own published documentation. Always confirm the product name matches before dialing, and test with a real call afterward. If your provider is not listed here, check its own support pages rather than borrowing another carrier's codes.
- Verizon mobile: *72 plus the 10-digit destination forwards all calls; *71 plus the destination forwards unanswered calls; *73 disables. Set up from the mobile phone while in Verizon coverage.
- AT&T Phone for Business: all calls *72, destination, #; no answer *92, destination, #; busy *90, destination, #; turn each off with *73#, *93#, or *91#. On AT&T Collaborate, the codes differ (*72, *92, *62) and an administrator controls feature access.
- Comcast Business: Voice Mobility includes call forwarding and remote call forwarding, managed through My Account or the Comcast Business App. On Comcast Managed Voice (Panasonic TPA65), dial *72 plus the destination from the handset; *73 disables.
- Spectrum Business Voice: sign in to SpectrumBusiness.net, open Voice, choose the number, then Voice Settings or Forwarding Manager, and enable unconditional or busy/no-answer forwarding with your destination.
- Frontier Unlimited Digital Voice: dial *72, wait for the second dial tone, enter the destination, and listen for confirmation; *73 disables. The portal path is Settings, Call Settings, Call Forwarding.
- Optimum Business Phone: dial *72, wait for dial tone, then dial the destination; the destination answering confirms it. *73 turns forwarding off.
- Vonage Business Communications: select Call Forwarding and enable forwarding to a phone number, then verify with an outside call. Windstream OfficeSuite UC uses the WE Connect Dashboard's My Call Forwarding widget instead.
- T-Mobile: **21*1 plus the destination and # forwards all calls; **61*1 for no reply, **62*1 for unreachable, **67*1 for busy; ##21# disables and ##004# resets to defaults.

What Callers Experience
With unconditional forwarding, callers dial your office number and your cell rings as if the call were placed to you directly. With no-answer forwarding, the office phone rings for the number of rings your system allows, then the call moves to your cell. The caller usually cannot tell the difference beyond a longer wait.
A few practical points matter here. Forwarding applies to calls, not text messages, on services like Verizon mobile. All-call forwarding on a landline can prevent the original line from receiving calls at all, and it can override voicemail on that line, so your office voicemail will not catch anything while forwarding is active. If your cell is off or out of coverage, the call may go to your cell's voicemail instead of your office voicemail, so update your mobile greeting to identify your business.
- Forwarding moves calls, not texts, on many wireless services.
- All-call forwarding can silence the office phone and override its voicemail.
- Missed forwarded calls land in your cell voicemail, so make that greeting identify your business.

Pairing Forwarding with an Answering Service
Forwarding to your cell only helps when you can answer. When you are on another call, driving, or asleep, a forwarded call still goes to voicemail, and callers who needed a live answer may look elsewhere.
An around-the-clock answering service fills that gap. With AllDayDesk, you keep your existing office number and forward calls to the service; the setup instructions depend on your phone service. The receptionist answers using your saved business information, takes messages when it does not know an answer or price, and can book appointments once you have configured your services and availability in the dashboard calendar. You can review calls, transcripts, summaries, and bookings in the dashboard, and an optional Google Calendar connection is available in Settings after you connect and authorize your account. Changes to existing appointments are passed to you as requests rather than confirmed changes.
A common pattern is conditional no-answer forwarding to the service during hours you cannot answer, so the office phone still rings for you first. If you want the service to pass a call to you, you configure a transfer destination and the rules for when transfers happen; a pickup is not guaranteed, so decide in advance which calls you want transferred and which should simply be taken as messages.

Test the Setup and Know How to Turn It Off
After activating forwarding, place a test call from a different phone, such as a friend's mobile, and confirm the call reaches your cell the way you expect. Many providers confirm activation with a tone or message; Optimum, for example, confirms when the destination answers, or with two beeps and dial tone on a retry. Vonage recommends verifying the destination with an outside call.
Keep the deactivation code handy. Most services use *73 to turn forwarding off from the same line, though portal-based systems like Spectrum Business Voice and Windstream OfficeSuite UC disable it in the same settings where you enabled it. If a conditional feature fails to activate, your line or plan may not support it; confirm with your provider rather than trying another carrier's codes.

More questions, answered
Does forwarding to my cell phone change my office number?
No. Call forwarding keeps your existing office number. Callers dial it as usual, and the phone system routes the call to your cell. Moving the number itself to a mobile carrier is a different process entirely.
Can I forward a Google Voice number to an answering service?
Google explicitly states that forwarding calls from a Google Voice number to an automated system is unsupported, so this is not a workable path. Forward your underlying carrier line instead, and check with your provider about what your plan supports.
Why did my conditional forwarding code not work?
Some plans and lines only support all-call forwarding, and codes differ between a carrier's wireless and landline products. Confirm the exact product name on your bill and ask your provider whether your line supports busy, no-answer, or unreachable forwarding before trying other codes.
Will callers know my calls are being forwarded?
Usually not. The call simply rings at the destination after any delay your system applies. The main visible difference with no-answer forwarding is a longer ring time before your cell picks up.
Does forwarding cost extra?
It depends on your plan and provider. Verizon notes that charges depend on the plan, and business features often depend on subscribed services. Check with your carrier about any forwarding or long-distance charges that apply to your line.
