AI phone answering for your business
24 7 call answering means your business phone is covered day, night, weekend and holiday as one continuous service. With AllDayDesk, you keep your existing phone number and forward your calls to an AI receptionist that answers using your saved business information. Setup starts by choosing your business or entering its website, checking the details it found, hearing a personalized sample, and choosing how to set up your phone. Forwarding instructions depend on your phone service, so you follow the steps for your carrier. After that, calls, transcripts, summaries and bookings show up in your dashboard. When the receptionist does not know an answer, a price, or an open appointment time, it takes a message instead of guessing.

How it works
Choose your business or enter its website. Check the services, hours, and details callers need.
Listen to a sample for your business and check its answers. The sample does not create a real booking.
Follow the steps for your phone service. Set up booking availability and any call transfers you want to use.
Review calls, messages, and bookings in your dashboard.
Around-the-clock answering treats every hour the same: a weekday morning call, a Saturday night call, and a holiday call all get the same treatment. The receptionist answers in your business name, uses the information you saved about your services, and handles each call on its own terms.
Coverage is about availability, not guarantees. AllDayDesk is available around the clock, but that does not promise every single call connects — phone networks and forwarding can fail on their own. What it does mean is that there is no set of hours where calls simply ring out to nobody.
It also means knowing the limits. The receptionist answers questions from your saved business details and takes messages when something is unknown. It does not give medical, legal, or financial advice, and it does not collect sensitive payment or personal details.
You do not need a new phone number. You forward your existing number to AllDayDesk, and the steps depend on who provides your phone service. Some carriers use star codes you dial from the phone itself; others use a web portal or app.
For example, Verizon mobile uses *72 plus the destination number for all-call forwarding and *73 to turn it off, set up from the phone while in coverage. T-Mobile uses **21*1 followed by the number and # for unconditional forwarding, with ##21# to disable. Comcast Business manages forwarding through My Account or the Comcast Business App, and features depend on the services you subscribe to. Spectrum Business Voice uses the SpectrumBusiness.net portal under Voice Settings or Forwarding Manager.
One important exception: Google Voice does not support forwarding calls from a Google Voice number to an automated system, so a Google Voice number is not a compatible path. If you are unsure which product or plan you have, check your bill or your provider's support pages before dialing any code — codes differ even within the same carrier's product lines.

Setup starts by choosing your business or entering its website. AllDayDesk checks the details it finds about your business, and you confirm or correct them. Then you hear a personalized sample of how your calls would be answered — the sample is a demonstration and does not create a real booking.
After the sample, you choose your phone setup option and follow the forwarding instructions for your carrier. Once forwarding is active, calls that reach AllDayDesk are answered, and you can review everything in the dashboard.
New appointments go on the built-in AllDayDesk dashboard calendar by default, once you have configured your services and availability. If you prefer, you can optionally connect Google Calendar in Settings after connecting and authorizing your Google account — that is the only external calendar connection supported, and it is not automatic.
Most owners answer their own phone, so there is no assumption of office staff behind the scenes. When a call comes in, the receptionist greets the caller in your business name, answers what it can from your saved details, and books appointments when your services and availability are set up.
Transfers work differently: you configure a transfer destination and rules for when transfers should happen, and the receptionist follows that configuration. Neither pickup nor an immediate response is guaranteed on a transfer, because the person on the other end may be busy or unavailable.
Changes to existing appointments are handled as requests for you to review, not confirmed changes. That keeps you in control of your schedule while still capturing what the caller wanted.
There are two broad routes to around-the-clock coverage: human answering services and AI receptionists. Human services such as AnswerConnect offer 24/7 answering by people, and providers like Ruby advertise plans starting at $245 per month as of October 2026, while Smith.ai uses per-call pricing for its human receptionist service. Actual costs depend on included allowances, overages, hours, and contract terms, so compare current quotes rather than headline numbers.
An in-house receptionist is a different scope entirely: per the Bureau of Labor Statistics, receptionist duties include greeting visitors and office tasks beyond phone answering, so a phone service is not a full employee replacement. This comparison covers documented features, not hands-on testing, and AllDayDesk — this site's own product — is the AI option among them.
When deciding, weigh what each call actually needs. If callers mostly want hours, services, prices you publish, and appointments, an AI receptionist handles that around the clock. If calls routinely need judgment calls or complex conversations, factor that into your choice.

No. You keep your public number and forward calls to AllDayDesk. The forwarding steps depend on your phone service provider, and some numbers — such as Google Voice numbers — cannot forward to an automated system.
AllDayDesk is available around the clock, but no service can guarantee that every call connects, since phone networks and forwarding can fail independently. Availability describes when the service is on, not a promise about network outcomes.

When an answer, price, or appointment time is unknown, the receptionist takes a message instead of guessing. You see the message in your dashboard.
You can configure transfers with a destination and rules for when they happen. Neither pickup nor an immediate response is guaranteed, since the destination may be unavailable.
No. The personalized sample you hear during setup is a demonstration only and does not create a real booking.
