AI phone answering for your business

24 7 Phone Answering Service

A 24 7 phone answering service answers your business phone around the clock — mornings, nights, weekends and holidays — so callers reach a helpful voice whenever they dial your number. With AllDayDesk, you keep your existing business number, forward your calls to the service, and an AI receptionist answers using the business details you provide. It can share information, take messages, and book new appointments on your dashboard calendar. Setup involves choosing your business or entering its website, checking the details it found, hearing a personalized sample, and then turning on call forwarding with your phone provider.

What a 24 7 phone answering service does

A 24 7 phone answering service handles incoming calls on your business line at any hour. Instead of a caller hearing your voicemail at 9 p.m. on a Saturday, they reach a receptionist that greets them, answers questions about your business, and records what they need.

AllDayDesk is an AI receptionist that answers using the information you save about your business — your services, hours, location and pricing. When a caller asks something the service does not know, like a price for an unusual job or a question outside your saved details, it takes a message so you can follow up yourself.

Around-the-clock availability describes when the service is ready to answer. It is not a promise that every single call connects, since phone networks and forwarding can fail like any technology. It also does not mean a human is sitting at a desk; AllDayDesk is an automated receptionist, and you can hear exactly how it sounds before you turn it on.

  • Greets callers with your business name at any hour
  • Answers common questions from your saved business details
  • Takes a message when an answer or price is unknown
  • Books new appointments on the built-in dashboard calendar once you have set up services and availability
  • Records calls, transcripts and summaries you can review in the dashboard

One service for day, night, weekend and holiday calls

Some owners use an answering service only after closing. A 24 7 service covers the whole day as one continuous setup: the same receptionist handles the lunchtime rush when you are on a job, the late-evening caller, the Sunday inquiry, and the holiday call when your office is closed.

That matters because calls do not follow your schedule. A customer with a leaking faucet, a locked-out tenant or a sudden question about an appointment may call whenever the problem appears. With one continuous service, you do not maintain separate daytime and after-hours rules or record a different voicemail for each situation.

You stay in control of what happens to each call. Messages, transcripts, summaries and any booked appointments appear in your dashboard, so you can return calls in the morning or between jobs. If a caller wants to change an existing appointment, the service records that as a request for you to approve — it does not confirm changes to bookings on its own.

  • Daytime: catches calls you cannot pick up while working
  • Nights and weekends: no dead-end voicemail greeting
  • Holidays: the same answering behavior applies year-round
  • Existing appointment changes come to you as requests, not confirmed edits

How to set up a 24 7 answering service

Setting up AllDayDesk starts on the website, not with a phone call to a sales team. You choose your business from a list or enter its website, then check the business details the service found — services, hours, location and similar information — and correct anything that is wrong. Next, you hear a personalized sample of how your receptionist will sound. The sample is a demonstration only; it does not create a real booking.

After you are satisfied, you choose your phone setup option. AllDayDesk works by forwarding your existing number to the service, so you keep the public number customers already know. The exact forwarding steps depend on your phone provider.

Forwarding instructions differ by carrier and product, so identify your exact service first. For example, Verizon mobile uses *72 plus the destination number to forward all calls and *73 to turn it off, while Verizon business landline also uses *72 and *73 from the same line. T-Mobile uses **21*1 followed by the destination and # for unconditional forwarding. Comcast Business manages forwarding through My Account or the Comcast Business App, and features depend on which services you subscribe to. Spectrum Business Voice handles forwarding in its online portal, where you choose all calls or busy/no-answer forwarding and set the destination.

One important limit: Google Voice can forward calls to linked phone numbers, but Google states that forwarding calls from a Google Voice number to an automated system is unsupported. If your business runs on Google Voice, check Google's current guidance before planning around forwarding.

  • Step 1: Choose your business or enter its website
  • Step 2: Review and correct the business details it found
  • Step 3: Hear a personalized sample of your receptionist
  • Step 4: Choose your phone setup and enable forwarding with your carrier
  • Keep your existing public number — forwarding does not change it

Appointments, transfers and what the service will not do

New appointments are booked on the built-in AllDayDesk dashboard calendar by default, once you have configured your services and availability. If you prefer Google Calendar, an optional connection is available in Settings after you connect and authorize your Google account. Other calendar tools and industry scheduling software are not part of the service.

The service can also transfer calls to you. Transfers require you to configure a destination number and rules for when transfers happen. Because phone networks are involved, neither that the caller is picked up nor that you respond immediately can be guaranteed — so treat transfers as one tool among several, not a promise.

Honest limits are part of the design. The service does not connect to dispatch systems, CRMs, health records or industry software. It does not give medical, legal or financial advice, verify insurance, or handle emergencies. When it does not know an answer, a price or an appointment slot, it takes a message instead of guessing.

  • New bookings go to the dashboard calendar by default
  • Optional Google Calendar connection in Settings, after you authorize it
  • Transfers need a configured destination and rules; pickup is not guaranteed
  • Changes to existing appointments reach you as requests
  • Unknown answers, prices or availability become messages

Choosing between a 24 7 service, a human receptionist and voicemail

A 24 7 answering service is one of three common ways to handle business calls. An in-house receptionist can greet visitors and handle office tasks beyond the phone, but covers only the hours someone is physically at the desk, and hiring brings salary and management responsibilities. A human virtual receptionist service, such as Ruby or AnswerConnect, offers people answering around the clock; Ruby advertises plans starting at $245 per month as of October 2026, and Smith.ai prices its human receptionist service per call, so real costs depend on the quote, included allowance and contract terms.

An AI receptionist like AllDayDesk answers around the clock using your saved business details, with calls, transcripts and bookings visible in your dashboard. The tradeoff is that it is automated: it sticks to the information you provide and takes messages rather than improvising. Voicemail is the cheapest option, but callers get no answers — only a greeting — and no help with their questions.

When comparing services, look past the headline price. Check what the monthly fee includes, what extra minutes or calls cost, whether the service books appointments or only takes messages, how you review calls, and what happens when the receptionist cannot answer a question. AllDayDesk displays its pricing separately on this site, so you can compare plan details directly.

  • In-house receptionist: broad duties, limited hours, employment costs
  • Human virtual receptionist: people answering, quote-based pricing
  • AI receptionist: around-the-clock automated answering from your saved details
  • Voicemail: lowest cost, no answers for callers
  • Compare included minutes, overage rates and booking features, not just price

More questions, answered

Do I have to change my business phone number?

No. You keep your existing public number and forward calls to AllDayDesk. The forwarding steps depend on your phone provider, and you can turn forwarding off whenever you want.

Will the receptionist book appointments for me?

Yes, for new appointments. Bookings go to the built-in AllDayDesk dashboard calendar by default once you have set up your services and availability. An optional Google Calendar connection is available in Settings after you connect and authorize your Google account. Changes to existing appointments come to you as requests to approve.

What happens when the service does not know an answer?

It takes a message instead of guessing. Unknown answers, prices or appointment availability are recorded so you can follow up with the caller yourself.

Can I hear what my receptionist will sound like before committing?

Yes. During setup you hear a personalized sample based on your business details. The sample is a demonstration only and does not create a real booking.

Does 24 7 mean every call is guaranteed to connect?

No. Around-the-clock availability means the service is ready to answer at any hour, but phone networks and forwarding can fail, so no connection can be guaranteed.

Can I forward my Google Voice number to AllDayDesk?

Google states that forwarding calls from a Google Voice number to an automated system is unsupported, so this is not a workable setup. Check Google's current guidance for your options.
