AI phone answering for your business
24 hour phone answering means your business phone is covered continuously — days, nights, weekends and holidays — instead of only during office hours. With AllDayDesk, you keep your existing phone number and forward calls to an AI receptionist that answers using your saved business information. It can share answers, take messages, and book new appointments on your dashboard calendar once you have set up your services and availability. Setup starts by picking your business or entering its website, checking the details it pulled in, hearing a personalized sample, and then choosing how to forward your phone. You can see calls, transcripts, summaries and bookings in your dashboard at any time. Around-the-clock availability is not a guarantee that every call connects, and when the receptionist does not know an answer, a price, or an opening, it takes a message for you instead of guessing.

How it works
Choose your business or enter its website. Check the services, hours, and details callers need.
Listen to a sample for your business and check its answers. The sample does not create a real booking.
Follow the steps for your phone service. Set up booking availability and any call transfers you want to use.
Review calls, messages, and bookings in your dashboard.
A 24 hour answering service handles your incoming calls at any time of day, which is different from an after-hours-only service that switches on at 5 pm. With AllDayDesk, the same coverage applies on weekdays, weekends and holidays: the AI receptionist answers with your business name and details, answers questions it can find in your saved business information, takes messages, and books new appointments.
The receptionist works from what you save, not guesswork. If a caller asks something you have not provided — an unusual price, a policy question, or an appointment slot you have not opened — it politely takes a message so you can follow up. New appointments go on the built-in AllDayDesk dashboard calendar by default. If you prefer Google Calendar, you can connect and authorize your account in Settings; that connection is optional and is the only external calendar supported.
Everything the receptionist does is visible to you: each call, its transcript, a summary, and any booking appear in your dashboard. If a caller wants to change an existing appointment, that is treated as a request for you to review, not a confirmed change.
You do not need a new phone number. You keep your public number and forward calls to AllDayDesk. The exact steps depend on your phone service, because each carrier handles forwarding differently — some use star codes dialed from the phone, others use an online portal or app.
For example, Verizon mobile customers activate all-call forwarding by dialing *72 plus the 10-digit destination from the phone itself, and *73 turns it off. T-Mobile uses codes like **21*1 followed by the destination and # for unconditional forwarding. Comcast Business, Spectrum Business Voice, Vonage Business Communications and Frontier Digital Voice each manage forwarding through their own portal or product-specific steps, so it is worth confirming which product you have before following any guide.
One important exception: Google Voice does not support forwarding calls from a Google Voice number to an automated system, so AllDayDesk is not compatible with a Google Voice number used that way. If you are unsure which steps apply to your line, our carrier guides walk through the verified options, and your phone provider can confirm what your plan supports.

Setup starts by choosing your business or entering its website. AllDayDesk pulls in your public business details, and you check them for accuracy before anything goes live. Then you hear a personalized sample of how the receptionist would answer for your business — the sample is a preview and creates no real booking.
Next you choose your phone setup, which is where forwarding comes in. Once you are live, the receptionist answers calls around the clock using the information you saved. Before it can book appointments, you will configure your services and availability in the dashboard; new bookings then land on the built-in calendar, or on Google Calendar if you connect it in Settings.
Transfers are also configurable. If you want certain calls passed to you, you set a destination and the rules for when transfers happen. Neither pickup nor an immediate response is guaranteed on a transfer, so for anything time-sensitive the receptionist's default is to take a clear message you can act on.
When comparing 24 hour phone answering options, the biggest decision is usually AI versus human receptionists. Human services, like AnswerConnect's 24/7 live answering or Ruby's virtual receptionists, staff real people around the clock. Ruby advertises plans starting at $245 per month as of October 2026, and Smith.ai uses per-call pricing for its human receptionists — but starting prices alone are not a complete comparison, since included minutes, overage rates, hours and contracts all vary by quote.
AllDayDesk is an AI receptionist, which is this site's own product. It answers using your saved business information, books on your calendar, and shows you calls, transcripts and summaries in the dashboard. AI and human services differ in scope: an in-house receptionist, for instance, also greets visitors and handles office tasks beyond the phone, so a phone service is not a full employee replacement.
This comparison is based on documented features and published pricing pages, not hands-on testing. The right choice depends on your call volume, the judgment your calls require, and your budget.

Around-the-clock answering makes sense when callers reach out outside your working hours and expect a response rather than voicemail. Service businesses that get evening or weekend requests — plumbers, HVAC contractors, electricians, property managers — often use it so a caller's details are captured in a message instead of lost to voicemail.
Appointment-driven businesses like salons, dentists and chiropractors use it so new bookings can be captured whenever a caller is ready, not just when the front desk is open. Professional offices such as law firms use it to log inquiries with a transcript and summary for later review.
It is also a fit for owners who answer their own phones and want nights and weekends covered without carrying a work phone to dinner. If your call volume is heavy only during business hours, an overflow answering setup may be a better match instead.
