AI phone answering for your business
A 24 hour phone answering service answers your business calls day, night, weekends, and holidays, so callers reach a helpful voice whenever they dial your number. AllDayDesk is an AI receptionist that answers around the clock using the business details you save. You keep your existing phone number by forwarding calls to AllDayDesk, and setup starts by entering your business or website, checking the details it found, hearing a personalized sample, and choosing how to connect your phone. Calls, transcripts, summaries, and bookings all show up in your dashboard, so you can see what happened on every call even at 2 a.m. This page explains how around-the-clock answering works, what it can and cannot do, how to turn on forwarding with common carriers, and how to decide whether full-time coverage fits your business.

How it works
Choose your business or enter its website. Check the services, hours, and details callers need.
Listen to a sample for your business and check its answers. The sample does not create a real booking.
Follow the steps for your phone service. Set up booking availability and any call transfers you want to use.
Review calls, messages, and bookings in your dashboard.
A 24 hour phone answering service covers your phone line continuously: during the workday, overnight, on weekends, and on holidays. Instead of callers hearing a voicemail greeting at 9 p.m. on a Saturday, they reach a receptionist that can answer questions about your business, take a message, and, once you have set up your services and availability, book new appointments.
AllDayDesk handles this with an AI receptionist rather than a call center of people. It answers using the business information you save, so the answers match your hours, services, and policies. When a caller asks something the receptionist does not know, such as a price that is not saved or an appointment question it cannot confirm, it takes a message so you can follow up yourself.
It is worth being clear about scope: around-the-clock availability describes when the service is ready to answer, not a promise that every single call connects. Transfers to you depend on a destination number and rules you configure, and a pickup is not guaranteed.
Some businesses get calls at all hours. A homeowner with a burst pipe does not wait until morning to call a plumber. A tow customer calls the moment a car breaks down. Property tenants, restaurant guests, and clients with urgent legal or dental questions all call when the problem happens, not when your office is open.
Full-time answering is usually a fit when missed evening or weekend calls cost you real work, when you handle the phone yourself and cannot answer while on a job, or when you want callers to reach a helpful voice instead of a voicemail box. If your callers mostly contact you during set business hours and voicemail works fine otherwise, a narrower setup may be enough.
Most owners answer their own phone, so the decision often comes down to how many calls you miss while busy, driving, or asleep. Reviewing a week of missed calls is a practical way to judge.
Setup starts by choosing your business or entering its website. AllDayDesk checks the details it finds, and you confirm they are correct. You then hear a personalized sample of how your receptionist would sound. The sample is a preview only and creates no real booking. Finally, you choose your phone setup.
You keep your public phone number. Calls reach AllDayDesk because you forward them, and the exact forwarding instructions depend on your phone service. Once connected, the receptionist answers using your saved business information, answers what it can, takes messages for what it cannot, and books new appointments once you have configured your services and availability in the dashboard.
Everything is visible afterward. Each call shows up in your dashboard with a transcript and a summary, and any booking appears on your calendar. Changes to existing appointments are requests for you to approve, not confirmed changes, so you stay in control of your schedule.
Forwarding is what connects your existing number to AllDayDesk, and the steps depend on your carrier and product. The most common method is all-call forwarding, which sends every incoming call to the destination you choose. Many carriers use *72 followed by the destination number to turn it on and *73 to turn it off.
Verified examples: Verizon mobile uses *72 plus the 10-digit destination, with *71 for unanswered calls and *73 to disable, set up from the phone while in coverage. Verizon business landline uses *72 and *73 from the same line. T-Mobile uses **21*1 followed by the destination and # for unconditional forwarding, with ##21# to disable and ##004# to reset. Optimum Business Phone uses *72, waits for dial tone, then the destination, with *73 to turn off. Frontier Unlimited Digital Voice uses *72, waits for a second dial tone, then the destination. Spectrum Business Voice manages forwarding in the SpectrumBusiness.net portal under Voice Settings or Forwarding Manager rather than with star codes. Vonage Business Communications enables forwarding to a phone number from its Call Forwarding setting.
Two cautions. First, the exact product matters: AT&T Collaborate, AT&T Phone for Business, and AT&T wireless all use different codes, so identify your service before dialing anything. Second, if you use Google Voice, Google explicitly does not support forwarding calls from a Google Voice number to an automated system, so a Google Voice number is not a compatible path to AllDayDesk. If you are unsure which product you have, check your bill or contact your carrier, and always test with a real call after activating.

Pricing for around-the-clock answering usually follows one of two models. Human call centers often price by the minute or by the call, with monthly minimums. For reference, Ruby advertises live virtual receptionist plans starting at $245 per month as of October 9, 2026, and Smith.ai prices its human receptionist service per call; those are starting points only, and real cost depends on included allowance, overage rates, hours, and contract terms on a current quote.
AI receptionists are typically priced by monthly plan with a bucket of included minutes. AllDayDesk plan pricing is displayed separately on this page, and plans include a set number of minutes with a per-minute rate for extra time. Because an AI receptionist does not bill per call the way a human service often does, the math is usually simpler to predict, but you should still estimate your monthly call minutes before choosing a plan.
Compare total monthly cost against the value of the calls you currently miss. A service that costs more than the work it captures is not worth it; one that pays for itself with a single booked job per month is.

Honest limits matter when a service answers for your business around the clock. AllDayDesk answers from the business information you save. If a caller asks for a price, policy, or appointment detail that is not saved, the receptionist takes a message instead of guessing. It does not give medical, legal, or financial advice, and it does not collect sensitive medical, legal, financial, or payment details from callers.
Transfers to you require you to configure a destination number and rules, and neither a pickup nor an immediate response is guaranteed. Around-the-clock availability is not a promise that every call connects. Changes to existing appointments are requests for you, not confirmed changes, so check your dashboard messages before assuming a schedule changed.
AllDayDesk also does not connect to dispatch software, CRM systems, health records, or industry scheduling tools. The only external calendar connection is the optional Google Calendar connection in Settings, which you must connect and authorize yourself. New appointments use the built-in AllDayDesk dashboard calendar by default.

No. Google states that forwarding calls from a Google Voice number to an automated system is unsupported, so a Google Voice number is not a compatible path. Use a standard carrier or business phone line instead.
